Our Al Iannazzone will have more later, but he broke the news for The Bergen Record that the Nets have agreed to a deal with the Utah Jazz to acquire point guard Deron Williams. The Nets will send starting PG Devin Harris, Derrick Favors (the third-overall pick in the 2010 draft) and two No. 1 picks to Utah. Troy Murphy will head to Golden State in a seperate trade.

Williams, a two-time All-Star averaging 21.3 points per game and 9.7 assists per game, is a dynamite young talent that fell out of favor in Utah following the resignation of legendary coach Jerry Sloan. He arrives to New Jersey two days after the Nets lost the Carmelo Anthony sweepstakes to the Knicks. The big question is whether Williams, a free agent after next season, is willing to play in Brooklyn for the long haul. If so,

For a fun read, check out The Niner, which runs on YESNetwork.com every Thursday. Your challenge is to pull yourself away from a sultry shot of Jessica Simpson that puts this one to shame.

I pieced together a breakdown of the competition for the Yankees' fifth starter's role. Joe Girardi and Dave Eiland are insisting Chad Gaudin, Alfredo Aceves and Sergio Mitre are legit options, but unless Joba Chamberlain or Phil Hughes completely collapse, the other three are token candidates. It's going to be Chamberlain or Hughes and the debate on which one will light up talk radio - and hopefully our message boards!

Adam Spunberg put a wrap on our Top 10 Yankees championship teams countdown yesterday. It's hard to compare different teams from different eras, but there's no denying the mythical status

Courtesy of Al Iannazzone, the Nets' beat reporter for The Bergen Record (N.J.) and a contributor to YESNetwork.com: CC Sabathia stopped the Nets’ practice facility on Thursday to shoot a segment with Brook Lopez for “Yankees On Deck.” Even with the losses of Johnny Damon (likely) and Hideki Matsui (definitely), Sabathia is excited about this upcoming season. Curtis Granderson, Javier Vasquez, Nick Johnson and Randy Winn are on board, so like it or not, the Yankees didn't stand pat.

“It’s unbelievable,” Sabathia said. “It’s why I wanted to be part of this organization just because we won a World Series and they’re always still trying to find ways to get better – signing Granderson, trading for [Vazquez]. It just shows they’re

Johnny Damon will remain a free agent.

The rumor of the Mets making another deal, either separate or cashing in new acquisition Gary Matthews Jr., will come to fruition. Whether it's one that actually makes sense remains to be seen.

The New Jersey Nets will reach another milestone: 3-40.

Sasha Cohen, a senior citizen at age 25 in the world of figure skating, will join Mirai Nagasu as the United States' representatives in the 2010 Olympic Games next month in Vancouver.

The New York Jets and New Orleans Saints will be the National Football League's representatives in Super Bowl 44.

A few quick hits on a ridiculously frigid, yet eventful weekend, in the New York metropolitan area.

• Last week the Yankees attended a dinner with Dominican Republic President Dr. Leonel Fernández at the National Palace. Senior Vice President Felix Lopez, Tony Pena, Robinson Cano, Damaso Marte, Francisco Cervelli, Edwar Ramirez and several Minor Leaguers represented the organization and brought the 2009 World Championship Trophy to share with the President. Thirty-eight days until pitchers and catchers, folks.

Led by the Jets, our New York sports teams not named the Yankees are enjoying a bit of a renaissance. The Rangers are 8-1-3 in their last 12 entering Tuesday's home match against the Devils. And they might welcome Vaclav Prospal back from arthroscopic knee surgery

There has never been more innovative and creative ways to describe the New Jersey Nets, not even during the glory days of only a few short years ago. In this case I’ll get right to the point: Oh and Eighteen.

I could have gotten cute, but decided, “Neyt.” I could be derogatory, but just recall Beavis and Butt-head’s favorite expression. The cold facts smack the Nets square in the face harder than any wind chill. They stand alone, below the 0-17 1988-89 Miami Heat and 1999 Los Angeles Clippers, in NBA infamy.

They are the league’s worst team in scoring (86.6 ppg) and shooting (.406). They had no recourse but to fire a workaholic and passionate basketball coach named Lawrence Frank, who in the post Kenyon Martin seasons had the Nets playing better than expected.

This was 10 games into Lawrence Frank's tenure as Nets head coach. There was always an intriguing story behind him, but he started the season an anonymous assistant coach to Byron Scott. By the time we sat down for an exclusive interview he had become the flavor of the month in the New York metropolitan area.

The background: During the 2003-04 it was the Nets' policy to not make assistant coaches available to the media, so it was Scott who was the lead mouthpiece to a team off two straight Eastern Conference championships to address the team's underachieving play on the court and speculation of a rift between he and star point guard Jason Kidd.

One game i covered was a Sunday afternoon when they defeated the Boston Celtics to move to 22-20 and snap a five-game losing streak. Scott was ejected

Heard this morning on Sirius 19: Judas Priest’s “Blood Red Skies.” It’s Track 6 on the band’s 1998 album “Ram It Down.” According to Wikipedia, a tribute to the song is found in the Japanese comic Manga Battle Angel Alita: Last Order. In Book 5 during a battle scene the support character Sechs has the words "Blood Red Skies" and "You won't break me" (the tune’s chief lyrics) written on the underside of his boots.

The Yankees told opponents “You won’t break me.” They rammed their talent and will to win down the throat and guts of all challengers. It wasn’t just that they won 103 regular season games and 11 more to become champions, it’s how they did it. Last night I watched the re-airing of Game 2 of the American

Allow me to digress from Yankees talk to comment on some NBA news.

The New Orleans Hornets have fired head coach Byron Scott. I blog about this because Scott was the Nets' coach in 2003 when I first started with YES. He took the team to their second straight NBA Finals that season and I got to know him while helping cover the team at the start of the 2003-04 season. The Nets started poorly that campaign, however, and combined with speculation of a falling out between Scott and Jason Kidd, Scott was fired that December and replaced by current coach Lawrence Frank.

Scott took over as Hornets coach and two seasons ago led them to a 56-26 record and his team pushed the eventual champion San Antonio Spurs to a seventh game in the Western Conference Finals. Coming off a first-round exit, ownership
