Like many people, I was convinced Cliff Lee would be wearing pinstripes next year. I assumed Brian Cashman would propose an almost-impossible-to-refuse offer (something short of a horse’s head, but not by much) and that Lee -- after much reflection -- would go the way of A-Rod, Randy Johnson and others who dispensed their smaller-town values for a glitzy shot in the big city.

When Cinderella appears as often as she has lately, one almost has to wonder if there are a lot of evil stepmothers out there. That, or dashing princes (with personalities unknown...really, do we know anything about them? Talk about superficial!) and fairy godmothers with nothing better to do than play Emma Woodhouse.

Though Geoffrey Chaucer never lived to see the game of basketball (nor attend anything that resembles a modern-day college), something tells me he would have many a Middle-English word for the dramatics taking place at Madison Square Garden -- the basketball Canterbury if there ever was one. Enthusiastic fans flock to Earth's metropolis, on pilgrimage to see hoops played at the highest levels of amateur competition.
