Ultimate Road Trip has Jumped the Shark

<< Jumping the shark is a metaphor for the tipping point at which a TV series passes its peak or introduces plot twists which are inconsistent with what has preceded them. Once a show has jumped the shark, the viewer senses a noticeable decline in quality or feels the show has undergone too many changes to retain its original charm.[1] The term has also evolved to describe other areas of pop culture, including movie series, music, acting celebrities, or authors for whom a drastic change was seen as the beginning of the end. The term derives from an episode of Happy Days in which Fonzie jumped over a shark while on water skis.[2][3][4] >> Wikipedia entry; the episode in question first aired October 20, 1977

Ultimate Road Trip has jumped the shark. If the new premise -- competing teams -- wasn't bad enough, and the obnoxiousness of Eddie and Dougie wasn't too much, now we've got Dougie talking smack about Brenda behind her back, and, through the magic of television, right to her face, too!

The time has come to scrap the format. Forget the team contests. Eddie and Dougie are disruptive influences and have got to go. Make it just the other four, Brenda, Justin, Indio and Shelli. And make it so that everybody goes to every game. If the prize is that the top two get better seats than the bottom two, fine, so they still have something to play for. But no more of this nonsense. Keeping half the group home for nearly every game is creating too much discord.

And for next year, get rid of Miss Texas. Michelle Beadle has annoyed the heck out of me, putting herself into, as ESPN's Tony Kornheiser would say, a Gots-To-Go Situation. Christa Robinson from Season 1 has already proven, with her appearance in Seattle this season, that she is quite capable of hosting the show.

Yo, Eddie: There's a reason you didn't make it for Season 1, and it's not your face that makes you look like Angelo Cataldi's long-lost son. It's that you're impossible to watch, impossible to listen to, and too full of yourself. With a teammate like you, who needs Curt Schilling?

I agree with you almost 100 percent. I thought the format would lead to these sort of bad behaviors, but I didn't predict that it would split teams against each other, just teams versus teams. Anyway, I think Dougie's behavior has been incredibly self-centered (particularly since he's been on the leading team), and although I don't dislike Eddie quite as much as you do, he's been sniping at his teammates as well. I'd be perfectly happy with watching the other four for the rest of the season, even though I thought this latest bit of news, that the bottom two are going to be eliminated early, was unfair.

Unfortunately, I think we'll be stuck with Dougie and Eddie all year, while a couple of the real team players may soon be gone.

Happy Days had actually ⁈Å"Jumped the Shark⁈ about 5 years before that episode ever appeared⁈ ¦ that show was a classic when The Fonz was a background character, funny, well-written⁈ ¦

It was a great show. What the heck happened to Richie's older brother Chuck? I don't ever recall him being mentioned after the the second season. And don't say "He Jumped the Shark".

And don't say "He Jumped the Shark".

LOL! maybe it was an alien abduction.... another clue if it is a good episode is that The Fonz isn't wearing the black leather jacket, in the classic episodes he wears a blue jacket with the collar up.... oh and the final clue of a classic episode is the opening theme song isn't the "Happy Days Theme" it's Bill Haley's "Rock around the Clock".....

Let's see, 1977 - 5 years = 1972, which is 2 years before the show aired. You probably also think M*A*S*H was better with Trapper, Blake and Burns than it was with B.J., Potter and Winchester. And that the Yankees were better with What's His Name at first base instead of Tino.

Hold on a second. It's one thing to talk about Road Trip, but please do not badmouth Happy Days. That's just unAmerican.

Happy Days jumped the shark when Ritchie and Ralph left the show. Period.
