So...let's make sure we're clear here. We should get rid of our best hitter, and replace him with a 39-year old who's bat speed slows by the minute, because you have a hunch.

Look, Bernie is and has been my favorite Yankee throughout all the time he was with the Yankees, even above Mattingly, because I knew he was the future of the team, and I knew the fans would always take care of Mattingly.

I rooted for Bernie to make it and show the Yanks that they could bring in players from their system, and they could suceed. When he made it big in the mid-to-late 90's I was very happy for him. I was sad as he declined drastically these last 4 years.

His time is OVER.

It is time for him to move on; he has no role on this team. His overall production is insufficient for a DH. He could DH against some lefties, but if the Yanks stupidly carry 12 pitchers, as it appears they will, they simply can't afford to carry two firstbaseman and two designated hitters. He can't play in the outfield anymore, and expecting him to learn to play first base at this point of his career is a low-probability strategy.

The case for keeping him over Giambi is nil. The idea that the Yanks would serously entertain that is idiotic.

You can like him better than Giambi. As a matter of fact, I do, too. But Bernie's time on the Yanks is over.

All things must pass.

When I watched him sweating in an early April game last year when most players were blowing on their hands I said "Now who should I believe, Jason or my lying eyes. I don't go for the "he might be a bum but he's our bum" approach. So, yeah, I pick Bernie on my hunch. Is there any truth to the rumor that YES is working on a wider angle for close up shots of this guy?

Look, Giambi isn't going anywhere. He has a no trade clause, and the Yanks are NOT going to cut him and eat the remaining money owed him under his contract. Maybe if they start testing HGH, and he is detected using it, then you have a case.

Until then, you don't.
