Things are looking up after the weekend, but with the Rays dropping 3 to the Sox, we need to keep it going. Jeter, Cano, and the kid pitchers are obviously concerning, but there are some positives, too. One interesting point about Wang's materful start this year that has not been discusses by Steve are his strikeouts. He's now up to 6.4 K/9, which is well above his previous career average. Seems like he's finally getting guys to swing and miss, and that's pretty darn helpful. The guy's been really good for a couple of years now, but liable to be killed by the Yanks' defense if too many grounders got through. Now, though, he could be on track for the Cy Young.

Also on the bright side in Melkman- increased walks and power this year, to go with pretty good infield defense. And he's just 23. Even Cano is taking more walks this year than usual (leaving unexplained Jeter's completely uncharacteristic lack of patience), though it hasn't helped him much. Maybe he should go back to swinging at everything.

Wang outdueled Sabathia in the Yankees 1 - 0 victory over the Cleveland Indians on April 27th.In that game Wang proved he is better. I just hope C C Sabathia is at the top of his game in 2009(I think Sabathia will give up a lot of home runs in 2009 but I hope it's not true , I hope he finishes the season with no losses) . Wang struck out 9 in seven innings durng that game in April, while Sabathia had 8 strikeouts in 8 inings pitched. Wang certainly outdueled Sabathia that day.But now that the Yanks Have Sabathia AND WANG + Burnett this team's pitching will be more dominant than ever before IF Sabathia is at the top of his game in the 2009 season. Yes I think Wang is a better Pitcher than C.C. Sabathia but thats just my opinion not a fact.
