Smarter: I am putting you on ignore. All you seem to wish to do is start an argument.

You posts things that you've read and heard, and I don't ask you for proof. I post things I've read and heard and you demand "proof". GO LOOK IT UP. In the meantime, you are now on IGNORE. Until you can be more respectful and discuss baseball collaboratively, talk to others.

You have to understand that plugging in with so-called 'best options' may NOT even be the best solution or even the best option, short or long term.

You think Zito will help NY? Honestly? No right? But he wants an extremely lucrative contract, not to mention giving up a draft pick to the A's as well.

But if we go by your solution and just plug up our missing holes with 'proven' then we have the All-star team that many people will laugh at if they fall out of the playoffs once again.

Compete?

I think the Yankees already have PLENTY of people in a lot of positions to compete with. (Look at Giambi, Arod, Jeter, Cano)

Besides if we don't give some young'ins a chance then how the heck were we supposed to find out about people like Cano and Wang?

And I don't think anyone wants a team full of rookies anyway, if they did they could just go watch Tampa Bay. Yankees already have a team chalk full of vets, give some of these hungry rookies a chance to play under the spotlight eh?

Is there anything else to be said?

Yankees buying players isn't all of the formula, it takes 25 to win a WS.

I, for one, am happy with what Cashman is doing this off-season. Or, more accurately, what he is not doing this off-season.

Lilly would have been a nice guy on which to take a flyer as a fourth or (more likely) fifth starter... at $5MM per year. Kid comes up in the Bronx, doesn't quite make it, goes somewhere else, grows up and comes back triumphantly to give it another shot. Good press, a good story and it makes sense at half the price. But not at $10MM per.

Lilly is a nice kid. He's starting to come into his own and starting to make the most of what he's got. He stood up to that imbecile manager up in Toronto, so we know he's got a pair. But he's not a $10MM per year guy.

He's clearly no Carl Pavano.

Or are those the kinds of deals you'd prefer Cashman make this off-season also?

Get Pettitte. I like Pettitte for his makeup, his demeanor, his history and his familiarity with the AL. I also like that his money is short-term, even though it may cost us $15MM per.

Pettitte is the bridge to the future - and, along with Mo, Wang and Mussina the kind of guy you want around your young pitching staff.
