shocking in 2 regards

1) Meche could have gone to several other teams with better shots at winning

2) The Royals have that kinda money?

Well it is the first week of the month, so the Royals probably got their Social Security/Welfare checks in the mail (courtesy of mr. George Steinbrenner).

As for Gil Meche, what an idiot! You know he's not going to be happy there....losing!

Well I guess the Royals trust their new GM from Atlanta, because they are definately giving him more spending money than they did to whoever their previous guy was. The move helps us though, because I think Toronto was supposed to be thinking about him, and he pwould have helped their rotation.

Really all you have to do now is pitch in 100 games (decisions) and win 50 of them and you get 10+M for 4 to 5 yrs. Wow, just about the same as th AJ Burnett deal...In terms of money, time ,and dumb move wow somebody should rank the best pitchers who make 1-12M a year on a 4-5 yr contract...Would very interesting to see who all makes the list and numbers they put up before and after the contract...

Outrageous and insane. I guess Meche figured he'd never get another shot at such an undeserved windfall, so good luck dying in KC. This is amazing. Aren't these the same owners who, not too long ago, were predicting the end of baseball thanks to the outrageous salary demands of the players? Now they're stumbling over themselves to pay mediocre talent exhorbitant money.

Wow! Maybe the Royals won't lose 100 games this next year! Probably just 97 or 98 losses.

I think the Royals have their own sports network this year, which is where the money is coming from.

And don't be disrespecting the Royals - in the eighties they were a much bigger rival of ours than the Red Sox (in the late seventies I'd say they were about equal with the Red Sox). And they were good.

Yeah, in case you haven't noticed, the '80s are over and this is 2006. The Royals have been the embodiment of a disgraceful organization for years and years now, crying the Small Market Blues while pocketing the reveunue sharing money and not improving their team, dumping good young players left and right because they were too cheap to pony up the cash. Now they suddenly have $11 million per year for a middling pitcher? Give it a rest.
