The Japanese teams don't have any choice with whom to do business through the posting system. It's a blind bid process. The posting system needs a change though. I think something like "You have to offer at least the amount you win at the posting" would really put the clamps on the crazy bids. But I don't think Boston threw out that money just to block the Yankees. I think they figured the lack of leverage on Boras and Matsuzaka's part would mena that they'd take whatever they were offered. They still might. I wouldn't offer him that much more than they're offering him as it is. If Boras wants to send his client back to a team where he'll make 25% of what Boston's offering, for a team who doesn't want him and who he'll have cost $51M (3x their payroll last year!) because of his own greed, and have to go through all this rigamarole again next year (because he isn't a FA in 2008, he still owes Seibu like 4 months of service time), god bless him. Or he can take the $45 mil for 5 years the REd Sox offer.
