According to an infallible source, the Mavericks' coach pressed team owner Mark Cuban to deal Dirk after the NBA's MVP came up shamefully small against the Warriors in last season's upsetting first-round elimination, but was overruled.
I dont really like the guy...i think he is loud and obnoxious, but he is incredibly basketball smart. He was the floor general of all of David Robinsons chapionships. It can be argued that Avery made the Admiral the player he became.
Trading Dirk may not have been such a bad idea. They had a few seaons where they were winning a tone of games but were going no where in the playoffs. They would have gotten a tone of vialue in a dirk trade and would have cleared a tone of money. As good as dirk is he is just an over sized SG. He does not rebound or block shots well, he is a non factor down low and is normally on the perimeter. They are a small team as it has and by having their biggest guy around the 3 point line the majority of the game could really hurt them. I could understand why avery wanted him moved.
