At first I thought there must have been a funeral on Thursday. Many African-American people at my office were decked out in black. A noontime inquiry about who passed away was met with a curt explanation that people were supporting "The Jena 6."

The "Jena 6" story in Louisiana was sort of at the periphery, one that a lot of people were commenting on, but nobody seemed to have any facts about.

The facts of the case, as near as I can cull from court records and the few reputable news accounts are such:

#1 Six teenaged males are charged with an attack upon one male. They jumped the individual from behind, cold cocked him, brought him to the ground and stomped him, kicking him in the head and continuing the violent attack even after the victim lost consciousness.

#2 The victim in the case DID NOT have any connection to a reported "noose" incident or an off-campus altercation involving a gun.

#3 One of the attackers, Mychal Bell, was a career recidivist. Bell had been brought in front of the court numerous times for violent offenses and convicted (adjudicated) at least twice before in the past year for assault.

Can someone please explain why there is such a spirited defense for the perpetrators of this violent attack? To describe the incident as a fight is unfair -- the victim never saw the first blow coming and never "fought back."

How is this incident different in spirit from the "Howard Beach" case where Mr. Al Sharpton called for "justice" against the violent attackers in that case?

Why is is Barak Obama, who is reserving judgement until the facts are all known, being called "too white" by a notorious hate-monger who referred to New York City as "Hymietown?"

Can someone please explain these things?

Something for Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson to blow out of proportion. However, I think because only black kids were charged with any crimes is a reason. The white kids that hung the nooses need to be prosecuted too, but this story is blown out of proportion.

Heres what happened, Accoring to CNN. I left some details out and left out some things that the District A. said.

It Started as 2 black kids asking permission to sit under a tree where they belived only white kids were allowed to sit.

The school said, "sit whereever you want" - on the school grounds that is.

So they sat under the tree.

Next day there were nooses hung from the tree.

The white kids were suspened for only 3 days, for such a racist crime.

Tensions in the school are high, a day or so later a black kid was beat up badly at a mostily white party. (very minor charges were brought aginst the white guy who beat him up) (only perole i think, the guy was an adult, who beat up a kid under 18)

There was another insident where a white kid said he felt threathned in a store in a predomantly black area in Gena. He went back to his truck and brought his shotgun. Two black men wresled the gun away. They got charged among other things with theft.

Then came the day of the incident, where a few black kids were shouting at the victum to "shut your F****** mouth", ect. (he is belived to have been shouting racial comments) Then the group of black kids beat him up.

They get charged with attempted murder, DA wants to give them up 40 years in prision.

Its clear this is pretty unfair treatment of the blacks in Jena compared to the white.

I know these boards are mostiy white, I am not white or black. I am Asian i do have a netural view of this.

I'm sure you see that there was something going on here. I dont say free the Jena 6, but much less time i jail would be proper. Along with a federal review of what happened there.
