How do you like your socialized mail service? Seems to be working pretty well for the last two hundred years. How about your socialized police force and fire departments? How are they working out? Could you imagine them being efficient if they were all privately owned? We use to have privately owned fire departments. The problem with that was they wouldn't respond to certain fires if the fire victims weren't one of their clients, even if they were close to the fire. They would let the house burn down. A private company looks for ways to save and make money; meaning they will cut out people in need for their bottom line profit. That is the main objective of any corporation. Nothing wrong with it in most cases. But it is wrong when dealing with public health and safety. I feel medical care is equally, if not more important, than any of these other socialized services.

tell me about it...she acts like hitler when she speaks...she rants and raves and the garbage that comes out of her is scary...really scary. But how many Americans will be stupid enough to vote for her? I can tell you already that both my sisters as well as my parents will vote for her. Scary.

Well written...I AM a Doctor and can tell you first hand that..when i was practicing in upstate NY(now in Ca)..we had many people coming from Canada..because they couldnt wait for the service there..or in some cases where Dialysis was required..were outright refused..becaue there were other patients who were "deemed" to need it more or would benefit from it more!..This kind of mentality would make the Avg American go ballistic..our society has the Walmart mentality when it comes to getting health services...but are nowehre to be found when they have to pay for it..As a Physician here in Ca, I can tell you that you are better off with no coverage or very little coverage..they show up at ERs..they cant be refused and end up getting first class care without a dime out of their pocket and frequently Not a dime in the pockets of the Hosp or us physicians..no other Profession would or could tolerate this...I know i am off topic somewhat but the point I am trying to make is that Our society would have ahard time with socialized medicine..the ones with No ins or who dont pay anyway will love it...the end result will be Sub standard care.....How about solving the problem of illegals who are Usurping our healthcare system in states lilke california..demanding visiting nurses after they leave the hosp and getting treated like VIPs when they shouldnt even be here in the first place.OR the problems with frivilious lawsuits brought about by people trying to make a buck off the misfortune of a "loved one'...This and many inconsistencies in our system which are politics dependent and lobby dependent eat away at the base of our health system and are directly responsible for the current state of affairs.

Joe is too Carteresque..his leadership wouldnt be too far off that mark either....And i guess the libs wouldnt have any problems with Joe being guided by his jewish religion like they have with Bush and his christian religion..he wouldnt work beyond certain hrs on certain days of the week(bec of religion)..this is how he does his Senate work..I particularly dont have a problem with Joe reg religion..just pointing out the double standard that would be hard to ignore...i certainly wouldnt vote for him..though i respect him as an honorable man.

Ask me.....What financial rewards are you talking about..1/3 thats right 33 percent! of what i do gets me nothing..Thats spelled with a Z as in Zero....any other profession do that?..you see your lawyer friends do that?..they will charge you for breathing while thinking about your "case"...you see your Auto mechanic do that? he will throw you out of his shop if you dont pay up first....so dont go shooting oyur mouth off about things you have no knowledge about...We Physicians realize that our profession is different than the examples i gave above..but you have to realize that there is NO service you can get in this country with out paying for it or providing a method of payment first..and our expenses are like anybody elses..we deal with high volumes and poor payers and long hrs. I had a patient in my office who walked in and requested i see her dad who was from Mexico and had no insr..but was very sick...i did and charged her nothing..she called me two days later yelling at my office Mgr bec the antibiotic she bought(which she did have to pay for) wasnt working yet...this is the kind of garbage you have to deal with and even liable for..without getting any thing in return...On a different note..i went in the middle of the night to see this old 95 yr lady who was bleeding internally..saw her in the ICU...despite her state she whispered that she was sorry for troubling me at that hour and that i looked tired....Those words energized me and reminded me why i became a doctor in the first place...So we take the good with the bad..and go on..our reward is our work..No insr company is rewarding us..they are looking out for their bottom line and trying to squeeze us in the process..bec they blame us for ordering "unnecc tests" and prescribing "expensive meds"...as a direct threat to their bottom line.

The criminal justice system operates under a similar restriction. That's what public defenders are for.

Excellent post Doc...illegal immigrants are a tremendous strain on the health care system and it shouldn't be...why....because they are ILLEGAL!! Why our syuffed suits in DC cannot get it together is embarrasing and draining this country. Bush is to blame along with the rest. Tancredo is the only one running who's right on this issue and he doesn't have a chance because of money!!
