I wasn't really impressed with Dice-K (maybe a little biased), but he left quite a few pitches up, and he threw some flat breaking balls. Also, he's throwing 91 mph on his fastball and he didn't show much control with it. However, his changeup (gyroball?? ) has a good downward break. So far his stuff looks decent, but if that's all he has, I don't think he is going to be as good as many people think he is going to be. Still, it's only my 1st impression, he may pitch a shutout, but if he keeps throwing like he's throwing, he's going to give up a few runs.
Top of 3rd; Lugo on with an infield hit (smell of trouble); Youkilis popped out to 2nd; Papi K'd for the 2nd time (tatally 7 pitches); Manny hit anothe infield single, 2 out 2 on; KC's 3rd baseman plays lousy so far; Drew hit a slow roller in front of plate for a gound out. Still 1-0 Sox.
Buck K'd; Tony Pena ground out; Dejesus flied out. 1-0 Sox End of 3
Matsuzaka's stats look great so far but the pitching contents are ok. Royals announcers said they see some similarities in him and David Cone. I would say Conny has much better control on breaking pitches than Dice-K.
If Dice-K continues to dominate the Royals, we are gonna hear about the Red Sox ticker tape parade plans for the next 5 days until he pitches again. Espn really needs a competitor. I remember when cnn used to have a pretty good sports show.
