Pena hit a slow rooler to Matsuzaka to end the inning. frown The stats may not seems so but Matsuzaka definitely looks hittable. Come on, it's Royals. His fastballs reached 94 probably only twice. If it were against Indian or Blue Jays, he would been hit hard for sure.

There were at least 2 balls hit really hard right to Drew. Come on now.

If he was a Yankee, Matsuzaka will be a great pitcher with 93 mph fastball, curveball 82mph and changeup.

Dice-K is the real deal, folks.

Igawa looks like a complete bust in comparison.

I haven't seen much trash talk here...things have been pretty calm for the most part.

LOL

You do realize:
1) he can dial it up to 95-97 when it's not cold (was clocked in this range repeatedly in spring training)

2) there is a lot more to pitching than just the speed of a fastball. Matsuzaka is NOT a fastball pitcher.. he throws over 60% breaking balls... more than any other pitcher (other than wakefield) in the Boston rotation. That 93-95mph fastball looks like a 98mph heater when you've been looking at 70-80mph breaking balls most of the time.

He dominated teams MUCH better than the royals in spring training as well.. this is the norm... not the exception.

Not saying he's the next Pedro, nor that he is unhittable.. but he's very likely going to be the best #3 starter in the majors by the end of hte season.

Drew hit yet anther leadoff double Lowell flied out to center. Veritek flied out to deep right, Drew tagged to third. Crisp K'd to end the inning.

I would say Greinke pitches every bit as well as Matsuzak. If it were Matsuzaka faces Red Sox lineup, he probably wouldn't have fared as well as Greinke with his stuff today.

Nice shot by DeJesus.

Matsuzaka likes to challenge upstairs with hte heat so he WILL give up HRs at times. Key is to keep the occational shot to a solo shot like that.

Another bloop single smile

2-1 Boston
