This is sad... if you were in the gamethread last night this was the point I was trying to make about putting more effort in anti-drinking ads vs. the anti-smoking ads....

CHAS - Please don't move this to the MLB thread where no one goes... every kid needs to hear about this....

I think both are equally important ads to get out there.

As soon as I heard about the accident I knew alcohol or drugs were probably involved. You dont just plow into a lit tow truck doing 50 in a 25. A WFAN caller from Saint Louis who had connections with the team said that Laurussa skipped him from a start two weeks ago because he was hungover. That should have been a warning.

I have been guilty of drinking and driving many times in my younger days but at some point in your life you realize you have priorities to others that are more important than aa selfish and lazy act. I thank God every time I see things like this that I never hurt others or myself in those days.

Yes - but you never see the anti-drinking ads as much as the smoking ads. They are not equally important! A kid can drink and die on the same night, I don't think any kid has ever died because he smoked a cigarette that same day, in fact a smoker will have many years as an adult to decide to quit the habit before it possibly kills them.

The reason we see more anti-smoking ads is that it's from the money received from tobacco settlements, when will we see Budweiser and the like put out the same type of anti-drinking ads? Never - they have too strong a lobby, all we see is Augie Busch Jr. in his finished basement telling us that we shouldn't "overdo it"... hypocrite! he makes millions off of drunks, Bud doesn't make millions off the "one beer, every few days" drinker, they make it off the drinkers who pound down the 6 packs...

Smoking is bad, I hate it, but if these a*holes really want to save kids lives then go after what will actually kill them...

There is nothing wrong with alcohol!

In moderation its fine and some studies have shown that an ounce of alcohol a day is somewhat healthy.

The problem is abuse. Ads against alcohol are useless but ads against drunk driving are important but those are on TV all the time. MADD has a great ad campaign.

It is a drug as should be treated with respect. It can also be addicting We need to do a better job edcuating the youth so they don't make the same mistakes we had to learn in the school of hard knocks,

heck I have no problem with it! you missed my point entirely... if they put out the same type of ads like the tobacco ads that are designed to scare someone away from it then it may have an impact. Show someone in the hospital waiting for a liver transplant, not a pretty sight. Or show a closeup of someones face who has been abusing alcohol for years, not pretty either....

this guy was more than double the legal limit, and he had 9 grams of pot on him and a pipe, real smart, he just lost my sympathy, its one thing if you wanna be an idiot and hurt yourself, but dont put other people in danger as well by driving drunk and high, no wonder why they released this news after his funeral, they didnt want to put a black cloud over it
