With the holes this team has in Bull Pen, Bench and starting rotation, they couldn't fill all of them now. If they did, that means they would have to deplete the Minor Leagues with whatever value we have. The Free Agency will be costly to the Yanks, but if they want a ring before Stein dies, they will have to pay through the teeth. If they can rid themselves of the salaries of Fanrsworthless, Myers, Igawa amongst others, then they could plug some of the holes. Damon is not a tradable commodity, he makes too much money. They can't play him in CF and if Giambi comes back, he is the better DH, so Damon will have to relieve the LF and th RF every now and then, and even then, I think he is a liability. Goes through prolonged slumps, and it seems his body is breaking down.

Lets not forget that any team that trades with the Yanks would ask more of the Yanks than anyone else.

Schilling was traded to Boston for a song, but the D-Backs wanted Soriano and and First Baseman Johnson ( I forgot about his name, and I don't know if I have the last name correct, but he was always hurt) for Schilling. That shows you how hard is to bring talent here without giving too much talent away.

ldantoni does tend a bit to the dramatic, and I firmly disagree with
her about Cashman in regards to what's good for the team in the long
term, but she did in fact complain loudly all through the winter aned
early spring that the Yanks were in trouble, that it was wrong to rely
on Pavano and Igawa for the #4 and #5 slots in the rotation, that the
bench was awful, and the bullpen was questionable.

She's Master of the Obvious. Plain and simple, Idantoni wants veterans in the Yankee ballclub. Her problem is (and this is the funny part) she doesn't know how to get it. She thinks like Steinbrenner. She has no idea or isn't even trying to figure out how this GM thing works. Her thinking (like Steinbrenner) wil do nothing but prompt the Yankees to sign even more Carl Pavanos, who are the very type of people she complains about.

Not even Stick Michael, when he was GM, put all his eggs in the basket before the season started.

Jarod Saltamacchia is one of the single most valuable
properties in baseball. He is a switch-hitting catcher who can hit from
both sides, has proven himself at the AA level, and is in the majors
and holding his own, hitting .280 with moderate power while being
thrown into a new position most of the time, and he is doing this at
age 22.
His defense is supposed to be good, and he's supposed to have a
good arm behind the plate. Imagine a 22-year-old Jorge Posada with
better natural instincts and footwork behind the plate. That's Salty's
potential. I've said, and I meant it, that if the Braves would do it,
I'd trade Kennedy for Salty right now, and I'd have to seriously
consider trading Chamberlain for him.

Qwik, last week I remember you posting that YOU would possibly consider trading Joba for Saltamacchia.

Under the normal circumstances and the principle that pitching beats hitting, I wouldn't trade Joba for Saltamacchia. However, being that the Yankees do have a surplus of young pitching and the fact that Saltamacchia is a switch hitter, I think I would consider it as well.

Well, it's all moot anyway, V.

Salty's going to the Rangers, unless something medical pops up to wreck the deal.

BTW, what command or button allows to include those nifty quote boxes in your posts? I'd like to use them.

Our problem is that the Yanks seem to have constant Power Outages. The BoSox usually never go through that.

that gives me an idea - any chance we can cancel the Igawa deal because of his bad teeth?

Thank goodness we didn't give in. Teix is the biggest waste of prospects and money for a rental in quite some time.

No, LOL, sorry, Art.

Good idea, but no; that horse has left the barn.
