Littlefield may make deal for LaRoche yet

The Pirates would start Melky in right and probably trade Nady. So yes I think they definitely have interest in Melky. The problem is, trading for Gonzalez does not benefit the Yankees if Melky is part of the deal. They'll add Gonzalez to the bullpen, however they'll create a large hole on the bench. Melky is basically the only guy on the bench right now who is capable of playing everyday. By trading him, the Yankees will lose their position of strength. I think they need to keep Melky this year.

Wankee, I do want Melky to stay where he belongs, but the newspapers have been saying that the Yanks are not willing to trade both Melky and Proctor, and I wouldn't be surprised if they accepted a deal with Melky for Gonzalez straight up. I don't want it to happen, neither do I think it will happen, but it could.

It dosen't matter if the Pirates need Melky or not, because he would go to the Braves.

The Pirates want Melky. They want Laroche. They want an offensive player for their soon to be TJ surgery patient.

Cashman and Shuerholtz are too smart for that.

I wish the Angels would just swoop in and get Gonzalez because they have a bunch of scrap they're willing to deal:

Kotchman
Figgins
McPherson
Saunders

They had BETTER NOT.

As a 21 year old, he hit .333 as our leadoff hitter last year with a .400+ OBP.

Now he's down in the Dominican playing CF, getting ready for his future position in Yankee Stadium.

He's matching Robinson Cano right now down there, hitting .365 to Cano's .329.

We saw Cano jump from .295 - .340 in one season but we have to remember that Melky is the more disciplined hitter.

I expect a big jump for Melky in his sophmore season. The advanced scouts found the holes in his swing midway through last season but he made the adjustments.

He will leap past the .300 mark and get some experience in all OF positions. This will improve his routes and give him on-the-job training, preparing him for full time CF in 2009 when he's 24-25 years old.

Yes, that's what I heard, too. Melky to the Braves, LaRoche to the Pirates, Gonzalez to the Yankees, is the deal on the table. But the Braves want the Pirates to throw in more. They don't think just Melky is enough for LaRoche.

I heard the extra player might be Chris Duffy.
