Loretta reminds me of Phil Garner who I always liked as a player but I'd rather see the Yanks try Phillips, Phelps, Miranda or Duncan.........

Good OBP guy, good enough glove to do the job at first, could also replace Cairo as the utility infielder since another guy who can cover first is likely to make the team, and he's a good teammate as well.

why? LOL......UH...MAYBE BECAUSE HE IS A CAREAR .300 HITTER.....MAYBE BECAUSE HIS IS NOTHING SHORT OF OUTSTANDING WITH THE GLOVE. Yankees should go all out to get this guy signed to a two year deal...he is worth it. I know the team only wants to go for a one year deal but they should really persue this guy. This guy can HIT!!!!!!! IT WOULD BE VERY FOOLISH TO MISSOUT ON THIS GUY. I was frustrated to no end when this guy came to bat last season....he always got a big hit.

I am intrigued by him as well. I see him as a role player and a gamer. I think he could help us.

I kind of like Loretta. Sadly, I don't think Andy Phillips has what it takes. Last year, I thought if he only got a chance, he'd prove he was major league material. Well, he got his chance, and didn't do much with it.

Hey, Damon worked out pretty well, maybe Loretta will, too. They seem to be pretty close friends.

over a 1000 innings at first and a fielding % at .993, so he wont be a defensive liability, hes my favorite choice, not that i have a say

I don't understand why this upsets so many people here. Andy had a nice College career and was a 7th round draft pick. Not spectacular but he had an outside shot. He bounced from 3rd base to 2nd base and eventually 1st base and didn't play very good defense anywhere but could hit the fastball. In June last year I was really pulling for him even though I never liked his defense but by the end of July he looked like an automatic out every at bat. Now he's a 30 yr. old with 7 seasons in the minors and a full season with the Yankees that still doesn't look like he can handle lefties and breaking balls and is marginal on defense. Andy's had his chance it's time to move on and find another player to champion.

He's a good OBP guy? Last year his OBP was .345. That is not good at all. Ask any Sox fan and they will tell you that Ortiz would have had 20 more RBI's if he had someone in front of ihm who could get on base more.

If we want to get a first basemen with a glove, get Minko. If we want a good bat, get Hillenbrand or Wilson. Loretta is not an everyday first baseman
