He Is amazing, isn't he? Hard to compare eras, but I'd also throw in Mike Richter and Eddie Giacomin in his class. Can you imagine how far the Rangers could go if they get their offense in gear!!!

Here I was defending the refs not too long ago, and now this. Avery is Avery. He is a passoniate agitator. He was good at both getting and drawing penalties. No question, he deserved the two bad ones he got late in the game, but why is he taking these???

Simple. He is getting raped and abused every single shift he is on the ice. Both officials have turned a blind eye. This is deplorable.

Is he a pain in the "donkey". Sure, no question. He was suspended and lampooned though for something that never should have even garnered a blink from the leagues higher ups. Now he is completely villified by the officials, allowing the Caps to completely nullify his presence, unless he is on the giving end. This is ludicrous.

I really question calling the first one. Everyone says it was intentional, but I don't know if it was that cut and dry and I also think if that is anyone else it is not a penalty.
Besides, Green's elbow on Sjostrom in game 1 was equal to if not worse than Avery's and there was no call on that play.
oh wait, according to the caps fans he hit him with the shoulder...my bad.

The way the refs treat avery is ridiculous, I don't know if it is because they think he dives or it is because the league doesn't like him. Eventually though he is going to get hurt, just like the last game against Philly when he was boarded, the Flyer got a 2 minute penalty. Could have easily been a game misconduct but since he hit avery it was ok.

Either way, Bertuzzi is able to get a fair shake after ending a player's career and almost killing the guy, maybe it is time to let avery play as well. he served his stupid suspension, took the anger management classes, he did his time.
The way they are treating him shows how bush league the NHL is.

and as far as the high stick on Jurcina, that was definitely a call and a stupid penalty to take, but lets not forget that Jurcina was clearly interfering with him. He was trying to drive to the net for a rebound, which varlamov gives up a lot of, and Jurcina interfered. The caps have been setting picks all series and have gotten away with them, it is disgusting.
