More shoulder woes for Schilling; sources say Sox tried to void contract

Team, pitcher in a dispute over whether he needs surgery

By Nick Cafardo and Gordon Edes

Globe Staff / February 7, 2008

Red Sox pitcher Curt Schilling will not be ready for the start of spring training because of shoulder issues, and is engaged in a dispute with the club over whether he needs surgery, according to sources with direct knowledge of the matter. Furthermore, the sources said the Red Sox attempted to void his $8 million contract for 2008.

Schilling's shoulder woes are more serious than the ones that caused the club to shut him down for seven weeks last season. His availability for the start of the season is in question, and surgery would call into question whether he will pitch in 2008.

that bozo organization has some nerve !! schilling is 41 years old, he missed almost 2 months last season because of shoulder problems. then he comes back and his velocity has greatly diminished. then those stooges give him an 8 million dollar contract, now they want their money back..............lol..............if they try to pull this, it will be a major turn off to the other players. especially after what that man has done for that joke of a franchise. they didn't know how to spell WIN, until schill showed up.

No they knew how to spell win they did not know how to spell FINISH.

As for schills contract, they were forced into giving him another year after his playoff run. There would have been a very bad reaction by both the players and the fans if they had let him go. If he is hurt and needs season ending surgery then they have every right in the world to void his contract. Just like we should have every right to void Pavano's deal
