Bartolo Colon just signed a minor league deal with the Red Sox. If he gets healthy they will have another veteran arm in their mix, just in case they need more depth. I have the feeling that at least one of the Yankee youngsters will suffer a setback, we also could benefit from depth. I would conteract the Red Sox signing of Colon with us signing Freddy Garcia to a minor-league deal. Brian Cashman is betting a $200 million team on the arms of young kids. To me that is too much risk.....

That's why Cashman is getting paid ...and you...are not...

Same old story, no matter who the player is that is signed, no matter how poorly he has performed recently, if the Yankees don't sign him some fan somewhere has to complain about it and find a way to fault Cashman. Colon, is finished, he was awful last season and all the reports that I have read were saying no one was impressed with the way he was throwing and his fastball velocity was in the mid 80's. He is an insurance policy in name only, personally I would want my insurance policy to be able to still pitch. Besides the Yankee lit Colon up, we would be only so lucky if he has to pitch for the Sox.

A-Rod is paying his salary so he can use him for BP when he hits the majors.

You're kidding right? You don't really think that Freddy Garcia would accept a minor league deal do you? That is ridiculous. The guy is an established ML pitcher. Teams are just waiting for the prices to continue to fall. Someone will pick Garcia up soon.

Yankee depth is one of its strengths. They don't need to sign broken down pitchers on the free agent market because they have many guys good enough to spot start in camp and in the minors. This is the most depth I've ever, EVER, seen with this team. Sure they are trusting a rotation to 3 rookie/second year players, but they are careful with them for a reason, and in the case of a fluke injury, there are many options to turn to that aren't named Pavano, DeSalvo, or Chase Wright.

I was hoping the sox would sign him.....WE KILL HIM......let them bring him in to face A-rod in a critical situation.......that would be awesome......

My reaction to the colon signing: (Cricket's chirping like a bad joke at a comedy club to a full house) Who cares? Signing Freddy Garcia would be wreckless and pointless, not to mention he would never accept a Minor League deal!

Colon is an overweight has been pitcher. Has history of injuries. His worse nemessis ALEX RODRIGUEZ!!! He was the pitcher of record when Alex hit 4 homers and 10 runs batted in. That was Alex's total for that day. Let Boston have him, there is a reason the Angels didn't tender an offer.

the red sox are scared to death, their young pitchers are not as good as the media says they are. colon stinks, hasn't been good for 3 years. the yanks have the best and deepest young pitching in baseball; that's why they are sitting tight.
