Red Sox could go after Padres Peavy?

I'm sure the Red Sox are "interested" in Peavy just to drive the price up for other teams, namely the Yankees.

The Pads will want a huge return for Peavy and why wouldn't they.

"Why would the Sox trade for Peavy when they have Beckett, Lester and Dice-K as their 1-2-3 punch?"

true but with wakefield on his last legs and schilling being done in boston they need to stablize the rotation. if they did get peavy i'm sure lester and ellisbury would be off limits

with the emergence of lester as their ace, and still having beckett, and dice K i find it hard to beleive that they would give up the farm for that guy

LOL, this is very funny! The Boston Red Sox are not trading Jon Lester and/or Jacoby Ellsbury to the Padres for Jake Peavy. If anything, Boston might consider giving up prospects Lars Anderson, Josh Reddrick and Michael Bowden or Clay Buchholz. I repeat, they are not giving up Lester and/or Ellsbury. Forget that!

Don't the Red Sox still have Bartolo Colon, Masterson and Bucholz in their system? They could go with 2 of those 3 as their #4-5 starters.

true but colon is finished, masterson is becoming a solid BP guy, and buchholz struggled but he'll still be good. Remember though the sox have the pieces to do it

I see a 95% chance of Buchholz no longer being with the Sox next season. Best case scenario (as a Sox fan anyways) would be trading him for Teagarden, worst case, but still a better option imo, would be getting Salty.

I don't put it that high solely because the year he had. More like a combonation of things. Lesters emergence as an ace, Matsuzakas success, Mastersons success, Bowden coming up, as well as Variteks amazing decline over the past two seasons.

The catcher in the Sox minors that has the best shot at filling in for Varitek next season is Mark Wagner...a 26 year old who hasn't made his debut yet. The Sox are DESPERATE at the catching position, and they are certainly willing to give up a young promising pitcher if it means making the entire organization have more depth.
