MyYESNetwork Posts: 0	I wouldn't say I'm an "official basher" -- but I'm coming darn close. I wish the guy well and I hope he can find a home somewhere else and come out of it and play well again. I hope he breaks the home run record so that the record will stand for integrity (not like Barry Bonds). But beyond that I really feel that New York is not working for him and he should take the bull by the horns and leave before the beginning of the season. I'm just not willing to go through another season worrying every time a ball is hit to third base. I don't know what happened with this guy because he played a great third base in 2005. But something happened -- and you know what -- I really can't be all that concerned about what it is anymore. As far as Giambi, I'm sorry, the guy cheated. I will never get over that. The guy can hit home runs from here to eternity and I will never get over it. But I will agree on one thing -- he probably has one of the best eyes in the game! Now on the other toss of the coin pinstriped, I really don't need Giambi walking this year if it's going to be in front of A-Rod. Apparently A-Rod isn't going to be bringing him in -- so the guy is going to have to hit those home runs. And I know I just said he can hit them from here to eternity and I will never get over the fact that he cheated ... but if he wants me to try to get over it ... try hitting them and see if I will eat my own words by the end of the season! lol I am forgetting one thing here. When Abreu comes back Giambi will probably be hitting 5th after A-Rod.

pinstripedheart Posts: 0	That's the weird thing.. I really don't think his batting has changed much from 05.. MVP or not (and I chose NOT).. I didn't think he was clutch that year. I don't care WHAT the end of the year stats said.. I wasn't happy with his hitting all year. Seeing the dive in his fielding though, that's another story. I thought he played a fantastic third base in 05 and had a good shot at GG.. I don't understand what happened. Weight would explain it slightly.. but it really seems like we may have another Chuck Knoblauch on our hands.. He's a complete headcase! I've said since 04 that he would probably do VERY well on another team.. but let him! I don't care! He can take his homeruns and all his dammm drama over there for someone else to deal with! I'm sick of the constant media circus we have to deal with and most of all I'm sick of how much we have to depend on him! He shouldn't be our 4th batter!! And now.. with Sheff gone.. he's our ONLY power righty! UGHH!

A lot of people say that Sheff said this and that and they didn't like him for what he said -- I personally don't give a hoot what you say -- and I don't give a hoot about A-Rod and the drama and what he says -- what I do care about is what you do at the plate and on the field. And I think we are going to be missing Sheff something awful this year! What do you think?

Personally, I don't think anyone on the team cared about his comments to the press and I think he was pretty well liked (how he got labeled as a cancer I'll never know). I think we will really regret losing him. His Avg w. RISP was inhuman. I loved the guy. I always felt good when he came up to the plate. Actually.. I think you and I were the lone two defending him on the old boards.. I think I remember that! huh..

MyYESNetwork Posts: 0	You said it perfectly. Can't say enough about Sheff and it sickened me to see what people said about him at the end of the season and during the winter. And yes I believe we were the two people on the old boards that defended him. Anyway, it's been a long night and I'm exhausted from the aggravation called A-Rod. Plus there is another game on tomorrow on Yes at 1:05 and I want to be able to be awake to watch it! lol Have a good night and see you around tomorrow night!

MyYESNetwork Posts: 0	See the problem with that is, it was either playing Sheffield at 1st (gasp!) or making Sheff come off the bench, which we would never hear his yap shut. We have a guy maybe not a homerun hitter anymore but he is a contact guy that takes his walks in Abreu. You can say it was a mistake to trade him but it was either that or hear Gary Sheffield P.M.S. about his contract and where he is going to play and that also means Giambi has to play 1st which means he's more of a risk to get injured and also hurt the team with his defense.

JeterForeverFan Posts: 471	If Sheffield didn't get hurt, we probably wouldn't be having this discussion. We wouldn't have traded for Abreu and we wouldn't have had a crowded outfield. We had 6 outfielders (Bernie included) for 3 outfield slots. They chose Abreu and Melky because they were younger, for one. Sheffield has a nasty swing but Abreu has a good average too and a good eye for the ball. He also makes the pitcher work. Most of his at-bats are full counts. The most important thing is that Abreu knows when to keep his mouth shut. We have one mouth flapper on the team. We don't need more.

MyYESNetwork Posts: 0	Here's the thing: I love Bobby Abreu, HOWEVER, he is not the player Sheff was/is. Sheff was frightening to pitchers at th plate. Sheff had an intensity that this team needs. Bobby Abreu is laid back, and while that's "nice" and all in the clubhouse, it's not the fire I'd like to see. Sheffy gave his all and he will be missed. I also know, from some personal experience, that those oblique strains can be nagging all year for ahtletes, cuz they never really give it enough time to rest and they keep swinging. Obliques are not good. Abreu will be back for Opening Day, but I wonder how long before it's torqued again. I just can't believe that the Yanks threw away one of the two power righty bats they had, and FRANKLY, the ONLY one that could be counted on persistently. We have one power righty bat now, and his name is A-Rod. Perhaps we ought not get started on A-Rod today, but ... for a guy who is "supposedly" so talented, he has about the worst eye for the baseball that I've ever seen. How this can be makes me wonder. How much "raw talent" is actually there? He also is repeatedly having problems throwing from 3rd to 1st last year and this. Can talent just go away? No... I've not seen that. SO.... hmmmm.. what is the problem? I don't believe it's ALL mental, although some of it is. The eye for the baseball is not The repeated throwing problems are not all mental either. Some of these problems are mechanical in nature. A topic to give some thought to. What's wrong with A-Rod? (Sounds like an article, doesn it, IBJ?)
