I've seen worse calls in calling a ball as a strike (wiiiide zone), but I don't think I have ever seen a worse one calling a third strike as a ball. And to (not) end the game. Crazy.

My point is that the umpire called the third pitch a ball but it was a strike. If he made the correct call Matsui should have been an out. Instead Matsui had a single and he scored a run. Check it out.

That would have only been strike 2, and the at bat changes so then you can't just assume the next pitch would be the same for strike 3.

Green's non-strike was strike 3. At bat and game over.

What about the 2-2 pitch Langston threw to Tino Martinez? It didn't end the game, but it can be argued it ended the Series.

The ump blew the call last night. It's happened before, and it'll happen again.

I watched the 9th inning of the Angels Boston. Fuentes didnt impress me at all, maybe he will be bad when he pitches against us. The Angles had a lead going into the 9th and they surrendered. They probably wished they kept Frank Rodriguez. Theey will be looking for Blood tomorrow because they lost one to us and two to Boston.

At any rate I was looking for a Boston loss so we could push them down further and cut that magic number of 10 or whatever it is, but since the Angels lost, they separated themselves a bit from the Yanks in their quest for the best record. One thing is sure for us, Angels and Boston will be in the Post Season. I don't see Texas catching Boston and the Angels go there now, so maybe Tex can win their games, helps us keep Angels down, and if they win and Boston loses a couple they come closer to Boston for the Wild Card run. But I do think it will be both Boston and the Angels. I hope the Angels can beat them in the Post Season because Boston is now on a good streak and they become very dangerous in the Post Season because more or less they seem to have their house in order when it comes to starting pitchers. We don't.

You have been telling us all season why we won't get into the playoffs now you're telling us why we won't win in the playoffs. Have you seen the Yankees play any games this year??

We better hope that this umpire is not at home plate during the PostSeason along with the one who threw A-Rod out for complaining about a pitch that he called strike 3 and was actually Ball Four.

I guess the only thing the Angels can do is vociferously protest. It won't change the outcome of the game, but at least MLB and the Umpires Union will hear about.

regarding Fuentes from Fangraphs:

"After dominating the National League with his unique brand of walks,
strikeouts, and non-HR flyballs (while pitching in Colorado,
nonetheless), Fuentes has seen the critical component of that trio
abandon him in the switch to the AL. His strikeout rate has fallen from
11.78 a year ago to 7.71 this year, a precipitous drop that he simply
could not afford.

As a flyball pitcher (47.3% of his balls in play this year are FBs)
with below average command, Fuentes has to limit the amount of contact
he allows. When he⁈⁚s not striking batters out, bad things happen. And
bad things are happening to him a lot lately.

...If the Angels want to win the World Series, they probably need to
stop giving Fuentes so many high leverage opportunities. He⁈⁚s not their
best relief pitcher, even if he does lead the league in a remarkably
meaningless statistic."

That was a horrible one too. Not sure if it was worse than last night, but probably just as bad.
