Francesa just said Girardi ought to tell the guys, "hey this is a free game, just have fun" and  wants start the NL pitcher with a 5 ERA vs the Phillies. He doesnt want AJ on 3 days rest. No! you go for the dagger in the heart, you put your guy, with maybe the nastiest stuff, in to finish it off. You do not give the Phillies any momentum. Anyone think Gaudin can last his usual 5 innings? even after not pitching in a live game in what? a month?

Its not really a ridiculous idea at all. Nobody would be asking Gaudin to go 7 innings. They could go with Gaudin for 3, Aceves for 3 and matchup from there. I'm not worried about Aj pitching on short rest at all. I am however worried about Andy Pettitte pitching on short rest. The guy finished last season with arm problems. Starting Gaudin tonight wouldn't necessarily be throwing a game away. I mean on paper, we should have blown out Philly yesterday. That didn't happen. Theres no such thing as an automatic win or loss in professional baseball.

he is repeating the same thing, AJ should not go on short rest, for about an hour now. Get to the game, Mike. Heard a little about Damon's AB. If you ever listen to Ron and Fez on XM Radio, one of there producers talks about how Francesa repeats every statement right after he says it. Sometimes, he just switches the sentence around. Its true, its like he cant think of alot of ideas, so just repeats himself right after he says something. like: AJ should not go on short rest, short rest, AJ should not be on. Mike, right on a piece of paper, an outline. When he drones on with the same mantra, it gets annoying.

this is the World Series, Pettitte ought to throw until his arm falls off, even if he hurts himself. We have seen it is so hard to get back to a World Series, especially with the super teams in the AL. Remember when Leiter was with the Yanks in 2006 postseason? He said he was throwing with everything he had, didnt care if it blew out his arm. Pettitte had to be convinced in the few years to come back and play, he isnt long for this game.

I'll give Francesa a pass on this one. And he's not the only one with this POV. What G is doing does pose some risk. CC was an example of that; 3 days rest meant he wasn't as dominant as he could've been. He kept the Yankees in the game, but... So those who think AJ should pitch on full rest, and let's not forget this also allows Pettitte to pitch on full rest, make a good point.

If anyone can win tonight it's AJ. He has better stuff than CC--he's has no-hitter stuff within him. But the downside about AJ is he's also a very emotional guy. He'll be facing a hostile stadium, and this might matter to him. Remember how in his post game interview he mentioned how he fed on the fans cheering. He won't be able to feed off anything positive in Philly.

What G did with his pitching staff is brave. Because if AJ loses and Pettitte doesn't dominate on 3 days rest, it gives the Phillies hope they can get to a tired CC in game 7.

But, still, I'll enjoy the AJ/Lee battle tonight. I hope it's one for the ages...

Let me touch on somethings here..(and this isn't directed at 1 person...this is a general rant)

1) this is the world freaking series.....you are not going to go turn this into a bullpen game after 3 innings. I mean come on people. Think a little. Gaudin for 3....Aceves for 3....i mean listen to yourselves. This not a game in june vs the royals. This is game 5 of the world series.

Gaudin hasn't started in over a month....and if your game plan is too let him go 3 or 4 innings...and then make it a bullpen game...i would strongly suggest you find some literature about how this great game of baseball works.

2) Concern's about Andy are fair....he had arm problems in the past. But we are talking about 1 start. 1 game. The LAST game of his season. His arm is not going to detatch off his body and go flying into the crowd in the 4th inning.

Andy is a big boy...he can handle pitching 1 game on short rest to try and win the yankees the world series.

WIN...thats all....JUST WIN!

francesa has a point there. they can afford to hold burnett back until game 6 in this situation with the yankees up 3-1.
