Gardner can't even shine shoes and you want him to play LF.  Gardner should be a gardner instead, maybe he can make grass grow in the desert.

Gardner should get a chance to shine as the everyday centerfielder, and bat 9th. Heck, take a look at Bernie Williams.

Heck, take a look at Lou Gerhig while we're at it.

Or how bout we take a looksy at Babe Ruth.

You can't really compare Gardner to legends such as Ruth and Gehrig, or great players such as Bernie Williams. All of these guys started out younger than Gardner.

Not to mention, I don't understand the double standard between certain players. Player 1 is a year younger with an overall  higher average, higher OBP and SLG%, yet player 2 is considered better when he hasn't demonstrated he's superior to player 1. One of the following must be true: A) If player 2 is considered a good player then player 1 is also a good player, or B) Both players 1 and 2 are mediocre. Since it's determined that player 1 is mediocre, assuming player 2 will be different than player 1 is overrating player 2.

You are correct.  The same couple of posters here have repeatedly said Melky was worthless and not fit to be in a Yankee uniform and yet praise Gardner as the next All Star.    Some people just don't get it.   If Melky was worthless then Gardner isn't even AA material.

I can't believe how big this thread has actually gotten. I thought maybe the most it would get is 20 responses, but it seems most posters here are a bit serious about this topic so proceed on.

I still think Gardner should get a shot in the everyday lineup Tongue out.

I doubt people were calling Melky "worthless" as you put it, but he really has done nothing much to show the Yankees that he deserves to be their CF'er for the long run. Yeah he had a great clutch season this past year, but that was about it. Melky has had 3 seasons to show himself and he's shown that he's nothing more than a 4th OF'er at best on a contending team like the Yankees. Time to move forward and try someone else.

I don't think people here (myself included) expect Gardner to be an all-star. All we want is to see him get a fair shot and see what he really offers to the team on a consistent basis. It's not like we have to stick with him for the long run if he stinks up the place, yet some people are making it seem like that's the case when it clearly isn't. I tell those people to "Loosen Up" and let's see how this situation plays out.

jaime hoffman may present more of a challenge to gardner than melky ever did, especially at a  corner OF position.  However that shouldn't deter gardner from shining as a late inning defensive  replacement and pinch runner,  thats not a bad niche to carve out for himself. Swisher, posada,Johnson  become more of a threat with bret on the bench in the 8th and 9th inning especially with their high OBP. Bret has a fan club and i know they mean well  with their desire to see him as a starter, but now with grandersons  speed and jeter's baserunning skills and knowledge  we dont need bret in the early innings , the yankees are a better team when girardi can use him at his  disgression. i also feel we are all gonna be pleasently surprised by what cashman picked up in the rule 5 draft. I find it very interesting that after picking up Hoffman  he proceeds to trade  austin jackson and melky and now plays hardball with boris and damon. i think cash may have had inside information on hoffman from mattingly or torre and used the bruney trade  to save kronecke(i think that is his name)as a diversion, because they jumped on hoffman. this all makes for a very interesting spring training
