I was talking to Ratman in another thread on the board yesterday and we were talking about Italian Pastry ... happened to look up Ferrara's ... as I remember them having great Italian Pastry ... wasn't aware that they now have a website and that anyone can now purchase their products over the internet ... figured some of you would like to know about it ... here's the link:

IMO, Ferrara's is overrated.  I think they probably got a little "too big" and the hands-on/family-owned kinda flavor left with that. I'm sure that in their day, they were absolutely amazing, and they are still "good" but I think that something always gets lost when "mass production" becomes the focus of a business, especially when it comes to food.

There are a number of Italian bakeries here in the Bronx (Morris Park Bakery, Contes, Pelham Bake Shop [this one, ironically, not owned by Italians anymore]) who blow Ferrara's away.  I'd imagine there are quite a few in Brooklyn as well...

Well, quite honestly I do most of my own baking ... and there are a few good places down the shore here for Italian Pastry ... so I wouldn't actually purchase anything over the web from them ... but there are people in places of the Country that can't get anything even decent when it comes to Italian Pastry, so I thought that they might want to know about this.

Greenberg's in NYC is supposed to be very good.  I have never been there, so I cannot speak from experience.
