When will the Yankees end the Joba-bullpen farce?

Don't get me started on Joba's horrific outing on Saturday. The boxscore didn't do it justice, I mean, he got absolutely DRILLED.

When will the Joba-must-be-in-the-bullpen-2007!-2007!!-2007!!! pom pom wavers accept reality, stop making excuses for him, and admit that Joba Chamberlain is just not a great relief pitcher and he will never again be the 2007 monster that he was? He's inconsistent, his stuff isn't there, and I don't want him anywhere NEAR a critical game situation for the Yankees. It's hilarious that the guy throws one pitch at 95 and the bullpen fanboys jump for joy. I mean... seriously? THIS is the heir to Mo? The pom pom waving has gone beyond comically absurd.

The team needs to end this RIDICULOUS experiment and send Joba to Scranton pronto to work on his issues so he can become a STARTER in 2011. THAT is where he will help the team. If they had done this at the beginning of the season, he'd have started the year as the ace in Scranton, and he'd be a lot further ahead in the process.

And bring up Mark Melancon. I just looked at his Scranton numbers and they are great. He IS the heir to Mo as the next Yankee closer and yet he's rotting away in AAA. Bring him up and start the process of grooming him.

Talk about overreaction.  Some people were killing others here on this Board today for talking about Javy Vasquez negatively, and Javy has had more than a nice reference sample of bad outings now, and yet.. after Joba has ONE bad outing, you're coming here to start a. . . .

MAKE JOBA A STARTER   thread???

As someone said to a poster today about Javy:  "Ummm yeah, NO.  Javy isn't going anywhere."  Same thing applies here about Joba.  He stays in the pen.  It's not a farce.

Nope, it's not an overreaction to say Joba is not a great relief pitcher. His numbers aren't great and neither are his performances. I mean, his outing on Saturday was as bad as any Farnsworth special I've ever seen. THIS is the guy people insist is the heir to Mo???? LOL! Gawd... I hope not. Like I said, I don't want Joba ANYWHERE NEAR a critical game situation for the Yankees.

Hopefully the Yankees wake up, bring up Mark Melancon who is the true heir to Mo, and stop this Joba bullpen nonsense. It never should have started in the first place.

I totally agree with your post, besides I think Joba stinks and should be sent to minors to work on whatever the problem is and doing so he will get off the ego trip he's on./

First of all....HUH????  "One bad outing?"  Are you kidding me?  In this young season, he's had more then one bad outing.

Secondly....this statement of yours "...Board today for talking about Javy Vasquez negatively"  is not the same....NOT THE SAME.  And why is not the same???  Because NYYGUY gives you a reasonable SOLUTION to the dilemna which is Joba Chamberlain. All those people who talk negatively about Javy Vazquez want him dumped. They offer no REASONABLE SOLUTION. They have already given Vazquez  after 3 bad starts versus Tampa Bay and Los Angeles Angels (twice). THAT'S THE DIFFERENCE!!!

I think it is too early to send him anywhere. He has been pretty good out of the pen, albeit his last time out.  Let's see a bit more. But, IMO, he is not going to be a starter now.  That deal is over.

If by "good" you mean "average" then you're correct.

NYY GUY you and I have been on the same page when it comes to the whole joba thing. You know I felt he should have been in the minors the minute he loss the battle for the 5th spot. But there you can't move the kid at least not right now. He was just named the 8th inning guy a few days ago. Hell he's even pitching from the stretch with no one on base.  I'm not doubting that he needs to be sent down but how much can he take. Named the 8th inning guy on last week and then boom in the minors.  That is a drastic move

he hasn't been good he's been inconsistent and on top of that his mechanics need serious work

I guess what brought on this post more than anything is checking out how Melancon is doing in AAA and seeing he's doing really well. It's a crime that he's rotting away there when the Yankees have Joba in the bullpen because of this fantasy (at least in words) that Joba is a great setup man when he clearly is not. He's not even the second best reliever on the team.  The bottom line is Joba is not the heir to Mo, so why waste any more time on this fantasy when they have someone better waiting in SWB. Other than making Joba a mop-up guy, he is the logical roster spot to replace if they want to bring Melancon up.

Plus is it really that dramatic if the adjustment time will be in SWB, not with the big league club? I mean, guys get sent down all the time, right?
