With the #3 pick, who should the Nets draft?

I think the Nets should consider drafting a SF and I think Derrick Favors would fit that role just right. He's positioned as a PF, but can likely play the SF role. He seems like the type of player that would add some excitement to the Nets with his great dunks and shot blocking ability (Josh Smith part 2?). What do you guys think? If not him, who would you want the Nets to draft?

DERRICK FAVORS

STRENGTHS:- Efficiency- Excellent hands- Excellent Touch- Makes quick moves in the post- Ability to contest shots- Activity level- Defensive fundamentals- Defensive potential- Lateral quickness- Pick and roll defense- Shot-blocking skills- Versatility to defend multiple positions- Huge upside- Strong Intangibles- Unselfishness- Work ethic- Young for class- Ability to finish around basket- Ability to finish through contact- Excellent wingspan- Freakish athleticism- NBA body- Excellent rebounder

WEAKNESSES:- All-around offensive polish- Lacks significant offensive polish- Turnover prone- Ability to create own shot- Ability to put ball on floor- Advanced post moves- Experience- Not always assertive- College system makes him difficult to evaluate- Got by on instincts at college level- Not productive enough- Relatively unproven- Free throw shooting- Jump-shot

Analyzing the NBA Combine MeasurementsMay 22, 2010Derrick Favors’ measurements (6-8 ¾ without shoes, 7-4 wingspan, 9-2 standing reach) are excellent as well, giving him enough size and length to slide into the center position (once he bulks up) and giving him terrific dimensions for a power forward. As the youngest player in the draft, Favors needs to continue to add bulk to his 245-pound frame, but that doesn’t appear to be an issue at all. As time moves on, he will continue to fill out and add muscle in the weight room.
Interestingly enough, Favors’ measurements compare quite favorably with those of Dwight Howard, a player he draws some (perhaps slightly optimistic) comparisons to. Howard measured just a quarter of an inch taller than Favors at the same age, was five pounds lighter and had a wingspan just half an inch longer. His measurements are comparable to the likes of Chris Bosh, Nene and Emeka Okafor, and are superior to those of Al Horford, another player who he’s often compared to.

What about DeMarcus Cousins?

As much as I wouldn't mind having Lebron on the Nets, I highly doubt he's coming to NJ. Some part of me says that he may go to Orlando and team up with Dwight Howard. Imagine that duo together, blocking every shot and beasting on other teams with their monstrous dunks Surprised

I think the Nets should consider waiting until next season when Melo will be a free agent. In the meantime, they should go into next season with a lineup of Lopez, Favors, Williams, CDR and Harris plus a bench of Yi, Humphries, Hayes, Lee, Dooling, Quinn and the other draft picks that they'll receive. I would like to have David Lee on the team, but then the Nets will have to sign him to a multi year deal and that may put them out of the pursuit for Melo next summer.

My choices will be (in order) Derrick Favors, DeMarcus Cousins, Wesley Johnson... now if Evan Turner is available then obviously we get him! and regardless of what some are saying that he might drop to the 3rd pick I don't think he'll be available so I say Derrick Favors will be the best choice for the Nets. I think Favors will fit well playing next to Lopez; Favors is a little over 6'10", he's long and a physical and very athletic big man. He could rebound and defend and has a tremendous upside; compared to Antonio McDyess and similarities to Amare Stoudemire so I say the Nets draft Derrick Favors with their 3rd pick.

Off Topic:

If we can't sign one of the really big Names out there in this year's free agency, then I think it'll be best to wait for next years free agency where Carmelo Anthony will be available.

Probable Line Up for Next Season

PG: Devin Harris

SG: Courtney Lee (CDR off the bench)

SF: Terrence Williams

PF: Derrick Favors (Yi Jianlian off the bench/traded)

C: Brook Lopez

Welcome NewJerseysOwn.

Philly might actually take Cousins, letting Turner fall into the Nets' lap.

I've heard that... but I HIGHLY doubt it.
