Be very careful when purchasing SONY products

I had a recent experience with Sony that has totally put me off ever purchasing another Sony product.

I purchased an HDTV by Sony in February ... in July I started having issues with the audio dropping on the television 32XBR9 set ... I bought a Best Buy warranty, but I tried to first go through Sony because the television was under a year old ...

... Sony does not honor their warranty ... they knew full well that the set had an audio issue ... it's all over the internet that the set has an audio issue ... they ONLY would give me the same set "refurbished" OR another set (that they are about to discontinue) and I had to pay an additional $300 plus tax and on top of that a warranty would have cost me another $250 ... I was about to do the deal, because I thought I had no other choice ...

... but when I called Best Buy and told them what was happening, after sending out a Geek Squad tech, Best Buy called the television a lemon ... and gave me back my entire purchase price towards the purchase of another television in their store ...

... well, I certainly didn't purchase another Sony product, I'll tell you that ... and the Samsung I purchased is actually a better picture ... which I am finding out that Samsung has overtaken the LCD and LED markets ... the picture on their 2010 models is actually better than Sony ...

... but the one thing I will always make sure to do is purchase a Best Buy warranty ... they actually backed up their warranty ...

... SONY was the absolute worst ... besides not honoring their warranty ... once you get to that level of discussing a return of a product, their customer service people must be schooled in monotone voices ... they all speak the same ... and show absolutely no emotion whatsoever, while they are telling you they are not going to honor their warranty ... and instead the only thing they will do for you is to offer you a "refurbished" television of the same model (that already does not work) ... OR "sell" you a new television (that is about to be discontinued) for hundreds of dollars more ... oh, and on top of it ... they only offer you one offer ... it's take this model or forget it ...

... the absolute WORST company I have ever dealt with in my 50 years on this earth ... will NEVER purchase another Sony product ... and I just wanted to let people know to be very careful purchasing their products ... make sure to purchase the store extended warranty ... Sony (the company as it exists today) cannot be trusted!

Mo, when buying expensive items such as an hdtv you got to do some research.  For HDTVs, I recommend Sharp or Samsung, those are the 2 best brands.  Thankfully Best Buy did not screw you over. Smile

I always thought that Sony was the way to go ... it's what so many people had told me ... but maybe they never had a set break down.  Also, right now if someone actually does do the research, Samsung really has overtaken sony in the marketplace with their latest 2010 models of LCD and their LED televisions ... I now have 2 Samsung, and I do indeed still have the one Sony we bought in July downstairs in the den ... but I have a Best Buy GeekSquad warranty on all of them ... so thank goodness ... but as far as I'm concerned, Samsung has the much better picture ... and on top of that the Samsung LCD compared to the Sony LCD I have ... the Samsung also has the better audio ... which I was very surprised at ... but it's the absolute truth.

You're right Robbie ... gotta do the homework when it comes to these expensive purchases.  Wink

Well I used to buy Sony headphones and they always broke after 3 months or so, I'm thinking Sony might have great quality but they use cheap stuff to protect their products.  With the bad economy and all they probably trying to cheapen their products but still charge the same, which isn't good. I used to buy sony all the time until the last 3 i purchased died on me. The tube on all 3 would not come on. I have other friends who had the same experience. Samsung LED tv's are awesome. The colors on them are amazing. Best Buy has great customer service. When I told them I saw the larger version of my TV went on sale after the return policy on the one I bought expired, Best Buy swapped it out without any questions. All I had to do was pay the difference.

I bought the Samsung LED 46 inch downstairs two weeks ago, and I'm amazed at the color and overall performance ... also bought their sound system to go with it ... I definitely would recommend that ... amazing sound ... and the subwoofer is cordless ... only has to be plugged in ... also delighted with the LCD I replaced the Sony with ... the sound is pretty incredible for not having a sound system for it ... being it's in the bedroom, was hoping I wouldn't have to bother with a sound system, and I definitely do not have to ... the speaker system inside the LCD is fine for my bedroom, actually more than fine ... and you're totally right about Best Buy ... they seem to be pretty amazing with their customer support.

Sad to say, it happens a lot when a company gets very big ... they forget what got them there.

I have the 46 LED in my room. Bluray movies, even the crappy ones, look insane on it.

For HDTV's, Samsung is always the way to go. Bought a TV about a year and a half ago and haven't had a single issue yet.

The only Sony product I would ever buy is the Playstation 3.
