Hot weather in Philadelphia for the 1933 Yankees and A's
June 9,1933- At Shibe Park in Philadelphia, A’s slugger Jimmie Foxx ties a MLB record with another homer‚ his 5th HR in 3 games and his 12th of the 1933 AL season‚ but the A's bow to the Yankees, by the score of 7-6. Yankees 1B Lou Gehrig hits his 12th HR of the year; teammate Tony Lazzeri hits a 3-run homer in the 8th inning to ice it. The sweltering heat in the east (New York City sets a heat record for the date with 97 degrees) causes both teams starters to end early; Jim Peterson leaves after walking the leadoff batter: after 5 innings Jumbo Brown collapses in the Yankees dugout and has to be carried away.
June 10, 1977- New York Yankees starter Ron Guidry does it again, stopping the Minnesota Twins by the score of 4-1, with 9th inning help from Yankees closer Sparky Lyle. The key Yankees hit in the game was a two-run double by 2B Willie Randolph.
June 11, 2010- New York Starter Andy Pettitte records his 200th victory in pinstripes in the Yankees' 4-3 win over the Houston Astros at Yankee Stadium. Hall of Fame Yankee Pitchers Whitey Ford (236 wins) and Red Ruffing (231 wins) are the only other members of this exclusive New York Yankees club.
