You assume the "Creator" is "God" because that's what you believe. Jefferson was purposely vague as to the actual nature of the Creator. He was allowing for all people of all faiths to form their own concept of Creator.

In the original version of the Declaration, Jefferson didn't even mention "Creator". His original words were, "equal creation".

Nature's God being the Creator of Nature.




He used the word "and", ie "Laws of Nature AND Nature's God." That allows for the existence of both. But, even if you want to conclude that the Creator is God, that doesn't necessarily mean that God is a Christian God.
