so, I really haven't had a chance to start the day..Wednesday, of course as so many of you know by now is my day off...I started it in a rather unusual manner...woke up to an inch of snow on the ground...and today is Opening Day for the Buffalo Bisons at Coca-Cola Field...no snow in downtown Buffalo...but very cold!...then I went on a job interview....yep, 64 years old and I went on a job interview...Seneca Nation of Indians seems to think they would be interested in my services again...hey, you never know...one should keep all their options open...the receptionist politely offered me a cup of coffee...whew!...they have a lot to learn about good coffee...I asked the young lady what it was so it would never touch my lips again in the future...she said, as if to impress me..."Gevalia, Creme Brule...isn't it yummy?"...I smiled briefly and promptly changed the subject to the unexpected snowfall...

115, you are delightful and such a gentleman.  Snow REALLY, its a bit cooler than it has been here but no sign of snow.  Maybe you can impress the prospective employer with your vast knowledge of Native American culture, gained from years of watching F-Troop.

Paul Baloche always welcome, especially this selection.

btw, speaking of truffles, these (Cemoi) are incredible.

Ibanez makes his mark

Raul Ibanez said he wasn’t surprised the Orioles decided to pitch to him last night. When they intentionally walked Curtis Granderson, Ibanez assumed they wanted to face him. Light-hitting backup catcher Chris Stewart was on deck with two outs and a base open, but Ibanez didn’t expect to be walked as well.

“I wasn’t sure what they’d do there,” Joe Girardi said. “They tried to get Ibanez out, and they had two strikes on him, but Raul put a good swing on a good breaking ball.”

Sitting in the press box, the choice seemed easy to me. Not sure I would have let Ibanez swing the bat in that situation.

If you look only at the raw numbers, Ibanez has been struggling. Last season’s numbers were bad, his spring numbers were bad, and he came into last night’s game having gone 0-for-4 in his last start against the Rays. But after watching Ibanez in the last two weeks of spring training, the Yankees had to feel good about their chances.

Ibanez is with this team to serve a specific role — to hit right-handed pitching — and he’s been doing that since mid-to-late March. He hit three home runs late in spring training, and he hit another one on Opening Day, and off the bench last night he went 2-for-3 with a game-winning double that bounced over the wall.

It might be too early to be sold on Ibanez as a regular designated hitter, but it was also premature to consider him finished two weeks into the exhibition schedule.

“It definitely feels great any time you can help out the club,” Ibanez said. “As a team, we battled back and stayed after it. Our bullpen did a phenomenal job. It was a collaborative effort. … These guys have always made me feel like I belong, and I’m part of this team. I’m just trying to do whatever I can to help. It’s about winning baseball games and (last night) we were able to do that.

Just a heads up, I’m going to host a chat here on the blog at 4 p.m. today. I’m going to try to get to as many questions as I can before I have to go down stairs to talk to Joe Girardi. Stop by if you can.

what a great fellow...his comments are so typical of a humble, hard-working, team player...I'm starting to get very comfortable with him...yep, he's going to make a fine Yankee...

Praise God for your vehicle situation working out well.  My prayers are unremarkable, but the God they are lifted to and the Savior they are offered through are quite remarkable.

I know of no player nicknamed "lugnut", howver I offer ther following....

Axel Foley

Oh contraire!  Which of course is French for "what you talking bout Willis?"  I assume you read, re-read, re-re-read and then disect each word into syllables, calling on Noah Webster to define each from its beginnings in the ancient source language and then arranging a round table discussion with the English Departments from Harvard, Yale, Princeton, Cornell and Rochester Institute of Technology to determine every implication and intent of each post.

P.S. are you sure Axel Foley never played baseball??  Cello for the Buffalo Philharmonic??

Pregame notes: Thin bullpen for tonight’s series finale

The Yankees are counting on CC Sabathia to give them distance tonight. If they don’t, the pitching situation could get very interesting.

Joe Girardi said he won’t use David Phelps, Cory Wade or Dave Robertson tonight. Girardi’s going to check with Mariano Rivera, but he might not have him either, and Yankees won’t know about Rafael Soriano until he plays catch (and even then, they won’t be positive until he actually warms up in the bullpen.

“We’re going to need some distance out of (Sabathia) today, there’s no doubt about that,” Girardi said. “Our bullpen’s a little beat up. When you don’t get a lot of distance out of your starters early on in the season when you don’t necessarily get an off day, you can get in this situation.”

Because Sabathia is starting, and because there’s an off day tomorrow, the Yankees decided not to call up reinforcements from Triple-A. It doesn’t help that Adam Warren and D.J. Mitchell pitched Sunday and Monday.

“We thought we could get through,” Girardi said.

The big test will be Soriano, who ripped the nail on his middle finger while throwing a slider in the bullpen last night. The finger was bleeding last night, but Soriano was scheduled to play catch today to test it. If he gets through catch, Girardi will considering him available, but with the knowledge that things might change while he’s getting loose.

“We could sure use him,” Girardi said.

• With an off day tomorrow, Girardi said he’s prepared to use a starter out of the bullpen if necessary. But that’s only if they get into a “crazy” game. Sounds like Phil Hughes would be the guy. “We have to cover our bases,” Girardi said. “So if we were to do something, would it be Hughes? Maybe.”

• Sabathia wasn’t sharp on Opening Day, but he said his fastball command was much better in his bullpen. “I would agree with him,” Girardi said. “I thought as time went on in that game, he got back to being CC, locating where he wanted to, and shorter pitch count innings for him, so that’s who he is.”

• Girardi said he literally had not heard about Jorge Posada throwing Friday’s first pitch until he was asked about it pregame. “That’s who it is!?” he said.

• Even Derek Jeter said he didn’t know about Posada until earlier today. “They just told me on the bus,” Jeter said. “Good for him. I know he’s going to be at the welcome home dinner. It’ll be nice. I think it’ll be a nice moment for him.”

• Girardi on Alex Rodriguez’s at-bats: “I think they’ve been pretty good. He’s been on base a ton. He’s been patient. I haven’t seen him really go out of his zone. He’s taken his walks. He’s gotten on base. He hit the ball really well last night to right-center. The ball started dying after about the second or third inning.”

• Girardi on Mark Teixeira’s at-bats: “I’ve been happy (with Teixeira’s) too. I think Tex has hit a lot of balls on the barrel. He’s hit some of them up in the air, and he just misses a home run last night. It’s like Robbie Cano. He hits two rockets just foul. They’re still pretty good at-bats even though the result’s not what you want sometimes.”

Other than CC throwing way too many pitches, it was a good game.

Roman Mekinulov is principal cello for the BPO...very talented lad...performs an extremely mean Vivaldi Cello Concerto in G Minor...BTW, it's Daniel; not Noah...and the most puzzling thing within this post ...RIT....where did you come up with that?...all these lofty, erudite institutions...and then you include RIT...that is so very cool!...in conclusion, unless I don't know all of my Axel Foley's...I'll still say nope, he didn't play baseball..
