Actually Gil played 2B while Billy Martin was on active duty in the Army. He did take 3b base job when Bobby Brown left to be a Doctor then gave the position to Andy Carey in 1954. Both Brown and Jerry Coleman where called up for active duty during the Korean War. When Scooter's career was winding down, he played alot of shortstop for Casey Stengel. You must remember that Casey really didn't have a set infield line-up like Yankee Managers Ralph Houk or Joe McCarthy had with the team. With 1B Moose Skowron being the only infielder not be moved around the infield like the others.

good Thursday morning.to all...I am not going to say a single word about the game...but Pam prophetically remarked just moments before Sanchez (who is really Eric Chavez; but I must humor Lola and Strat) dived gallantly for that scalding, screaming liner over third base..."I think WE are over-using Chavez ...he's playing very well, but I think at this rate he's going to break down...and then what are WE going to do?"...aah, well...does anybody have any suggestions?...

I don't think there is anything to worry about with a utility infielder like Chavez ... the Yanks always knew he was injury prone ... Nunez can always handle third base ...and whether Girardi knows it or not, we do have a full-time third baseman, his name is Alex Rodriguez!
what's this WE business...just joking dear lady ...any word on a line up yet?...now, regarding Nunez at 3B...oo-oh you of overwhelmingly abundant faith...personally, I think that remains a work in progress...and I will admit he is progressing...

Based on this video (click the picture) it appears Gil had a southern accent.
