And the Yanks are doing nothing.

Bad contracts have a way of doing that over time.... Cashman only has so much room to work with now.

That being said overall its a horrible contract due to the length.... Least the Angels are in the same boat we are now in.

Cashman has all kinds of room to work with.

Not sure where you are seeing all this room Cashman has.  While the Yankees intention to get below the luxury tax threshold for 2014 may be so much smoke, it does seem clear that the days of big increases in the payroll are over.  Given that they seem intent on staying in the $200 - $205 range for 2012 and they have at least 4 big ticket players who seem unlikley to produce commiserate with what they will be paid, they are going to have to get significant contributions from yoing, inexpensive players before he can sped big bucks for a big name FA.

Would I like to see Pujols in a Yankee uniform,  yes, but not for a guaranteed 10 years, and certainly not if they can't get someoen to take the entirety of Tex' remaining contract.  There is nothiong to suggest that Reyes, Wilson and Buerhle would have been worth topping what they signed for.

Well the Angels just got scary as hell.

They want Wilson too.  After years of not signing anybody, this year they look like they're serious.

In some strange way, I could see Cardinals being relieved not committing 200MM /10 years for Pujols.  Certainly their fans base cannot be upset with Cardinals organization as they submitted a more than fair offer to retain him.  Now lets see them get Fielder....

actually only the first 5 years mena anything since he will get 10 & 5 status at that point.  Seems to have been teh deal breaker for the Marlins.

The good news, such as it is, would seem to be that the Angles are less likely to be big players in the FA market after the 2012 season which, right now, looks like ti will be a lot better than this years'.

A tad surprising Pujols got what he did without the Yanks or Red Sox to drive up the cost.

MLB Trade Rumors

RT : The Miami actually outbid the for Pujols, offering 10-year, $275 million deal, sources confirm.

--------------

If thats true, Pujols is stupid for not taking that deal, especially with no FL state taxes.

Baseball-reference says he has played at the Stadium in a 3 game series. Can't remember when though.

Wow.

Really thought he was going back to St. Louis.

Me too. A player like Pujols needs to stay in 1 uniform for their entire career, especially if its a historical one like the Cardinals.

You mean like Mark McGwire?

Karma is a b1tch, isn't it?

This is certainly not a coincidence as Pujols alway stated he wants more than what A-Rod received....topping him with 2 extra millions

Buster Olney

Agent competition always fascinating. Pujols gets $254 million... Just a little over A-rod's $252m. Never a coincidence.
