Per Ken Rosenthal

Red Sox acquire reliever Mark Melancon for shortstop Jed Lowrie and pitcher Kyle Weiland.

Good trade for the Astros. I don't know about the Red Sux, but I hope Mark blews his arm out. Wink

And we keep sitting on the sidelines, signing minor-league-caliber players at best. Depressing.

From Aceves to Melancon Boston acquired Yankee ex-pitchers. At one time Melancon was a great prospect having closer like material. Aceves certainly worked out well for them. Lets see what Melancon brings.

That's a shame. Guess I can't like Melancon anymore. LOL

Had a nice season last year. Trading Lowrie...interesting.

Great move for the Red Sox. If he keeps his walks down the kid is legit. Guess this means they are going to use Iglesias?

I have feeling Red Sox have bigger things in mind. Now that they traded Lowrie that means that Scutaro is only SS ML ready. Would not be surprised if they plan on tryiong to trade with Matlins and bring back Ramirez.

The Marlins would surely ask for atleast Buchholz and Ellsbury...and thats just for starters.

So...the Yankees should've traded Nunez...and...uh...Warren or Phelps...for Melancon?

Or should they have traded David Robertson for Lowrie and Weiland?

?

I didn't say that. We don't need a reliever, obviously. It just that right now we have a mediocre rotation and several over-the-hill hitters in the lineup. A boring team. If we don't do anything--trade a Swisher, say, or go after a Darvish full tilt--then we'll suffer for it. The Rays and Blue Jays have better rotations and hungrier, younger hitters. Don't underestimate the Sox either: they're bound to get a one-year energy-boost from the Valentine fool, don't think not. And then there's Detroit, Texas and the Angels to face sooner or later. Standing pat this winter, roughly speaking (that is, not counting the addition of a minor-league-caliber lefty, say, and hoping, again, for the best), won't work, nor will it pack fans into the Stadium. Working to come under the luxury tax limit is counter-productive for a team like ours. Uncle George knew that doing something SIGNIFICANT in the off-season meant stimulating fans' curiosity and/or hopes, i.e., improved attendance. I don't see it happening--not yet, at least. IMO, of course. You're entitled to yours.
