May as well create a post for all MLB hot stove stuff.

The San Diego Padres have traded pitcher Mat Latos to the Cincinnati Reds for pitchers Edinson Volquez and Brad Boxberger, infielder Yonder Alonso and catcher Yasmani Grandal, the two teams announced Saturday afternoon.

Cincinnati wanted a front-of-the-rotation starter heading into free agency. The 23-year-old Latos went 9-14 with a 3.47 ERA for the Padres last season, finishing among the NL leaders in ERA and strikeouts. It was Cincinnati's first major deal of the offseason.

Alonso, a former first-round pick, didn't have a place to play with Joey Votto a mainstay at first base. Volquez was coming off a disappointing season, going 5-7 with a 5.71 ERA.

The Colorado Rockies have reached a three-year agreement with free-agent outfielder Michael Cuddyer.

The contract is reportedly worth about $30 million.

Cuddyer, 32, is a career .272 hitter in 11 seasons with the Minnesota Twins. He hit .284 with 20 homers in 2011.

He brings a big bat and a veteran presence to Colorado, where general manager Dan O'Dowd has talked about changing the clubhouse culture after a disappointing 2011 season.
