The"c" on Veritek's shirt must stand for Cr@ppy because that how the Red Sox are treating him.  Today the Red Sox offered to bring Veritek to spring training as a non-roster invitee.   Not only
that but the Red Sox made it clear Veritek was 3rd on the depth chart behind Salty and shopach.

Boras must be thrilled.

1) He is old as dirt

2) Beckett is going to have to grow up and not throw a hissy fit pitching to someone else

3) The Red Sox went through Sept and the big collapse WITH him as Captain. That says how well he led.

4) The Red Sox < or any team> is never obligated to keep signing washed up players.

That's good for everybody else.  When he caught their pitchers ERAs were much better than when he didn't.   Beckett will have to find a new personal catcher.  Look for his numbers to go down this year.

Where the hell was the Captain when all this drinking and stuff was taking place?  I didn't see him taking any blame for anything.  He had to know what was going on.  He sat more than he caught.

5:31pm: Ben Cherington tells Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe (via Twitter) that the Red Sox have not made Varitek any kind of formal contract offer.

Don't let the door hitcha, etc., etc., Jason.  An inglorious end to a ho-hum career.  Still makes me want to puke.  nc

Hey NC, how the hell are ya?   I was actually surprised they resigned him last year.  He had a pretty good year last year but was pretty bad the year before.  They'll miss him behind the plate.  I've never been a fan though.  That big C just turned me off.

Like Pujols, I'm still waiting for Tek's HGH test result.

I'm waiting for a lot of their results from 2004.  Too many guys had great years that year.
