most likely they didn't know all of it - you know, the crazy stalker stuff and the fact that instead of just another divorce this has now become some cheap hollywood tabloid front page story....  and the more steam this thing gains watch for other Cashman women coming out of the shadows trying to "Cash" in on their flings with Pee Wee......

That's possible, Art. They probably knew about the affair(s). We'll see how much of this they can take before they force Cashman out, if they force him out.

When I said Cashman's going nowhere, I was assuming that this woman was the only one. Art made me stop and think there might be others, in which case, the Yanks might then force him out.

It was already on the public record that their were "others" before this one. I would think that with extortion involved it would create a very different situation than just a simple affair. I don't think Cashman paid her just to keep quite about their dalliance. Cashman's marriage was pretty much over anyway. So what did this woman really have on Cashman that he would pay her 6 grand? And who knows how much he really paid?

The wife of Yankees general manager Brian Cashman has filed divorce papers, a day after prosecutors charged a woman with stalking him and extorting money over an extramarital affair.

Mary Cashman filed the paperwork Friday in Stamford, Conn.

Her lawyer didn't immediately return a phone message Saturday. A spokesman for Brian Cashman says the family wouldn't have any comment.

On Thursday, 36-year-old Louise Neathway was charged with harassing Cashman and threatening to harm his reputation if he didn't give her thousands of dollars.

Neathway's lawyers deny it and say Cashman turned on her when their relationship ended badly.

A person familiar with the family says Cashman and his wife have been separated and living apart for a year. The person asked not to be named because of the private nature of the matter.

Only a week after Brian Cashman gave his alleged stalker $6,000 for an abortion, her mom revealed that the unstable woman was never pregnant, The Post has learned.

Caroline Meanwell made the disclosure about her daughter, Louise, during a meeting with the Yankee general manager and his advisers on Jan. 27.

“[Caroline] apologized to [Cashman] for all the trouble and was very emotional,” a source close to the probe said.

“She said [Meanwell] was never pregnant, and had lied about it in the past as well,” the source said. “She said she had made claims [before] of fake pregnancies and fake abortions.”

The meeting came the same day Meanwell sent Cashman an e-mail, with a sonogram attached, blasting him for “treating me like a piece of trash,” another source said.

The sonogram had no name on it and is identical to generic sonogram images posted on the Internet.

Louise Meanwell, who also uses the last name Neathway, was arrested Feb. 1 and charged with stalking Cashman and trying to extort $15,000 from him for an “unspecified medical issue.”

Prosecutors from the Manhattan DA’s Office said Cashman on Jan. 18 made two deposits to her bank accounts, for $2,000 and $4,000.

Shortly afterward, Meanwell began sending threatening Internet messages to Kimberley Brennan, who has been identified as Cashman’s ex-mistress, sources said.

Cashman has been separated for more than a year; his wife filed for divorce last week.

In one exchange with Brennan on Facebook, Meanwell calls her a “golddigger,” asks “Wtf is wrong with you???” and says, “He’s married, do u not have morals,” according to posts obtained by the sports gossip Web site Deadspin.com.

“You have done enough damage,” Meanwell rages at Brennan, “I’ve done nothing to that family and nor would I.”

Meanwell also set up a blog slamming Brennan as a “husband thief.”

The spooked Cashman reached out to Meanwell’s mother and set up the January meeting, during which Caroline called her daughter’s Manhattan shrink, Charlotte Murphy, who in turn advised them to call 911.

Cops and EMS workers responded to a call for a woman with “psychiatric issues” who was “making threats, suicidal and violent” — but found nobody home, a source said.

Meanwell allegedly spent the next four days bombarding Cashman and his inner circle with e-mails, threatening to go to the press with her abortion claims.

The DA was alerted, and investigators set up a sting. Meanwell was sent a half-dozen text messages she believed to be from Cashman, asking her to meet him, a source said.

She was arrested by DA probers outside her Leonard Street apartment on the way to the meeting.

Meanwell’s lawyer and Cashman’s reps declined comment.

This story sounds just like a friend of mine that I used to work with.  He and his wife were divorced and he started dating a new girl at work (I asked her out and she told me she was seeing my friend).  Eventually she started creeping him out and showing up on his overnights making accusations and such, the more she clung the more he pushed her away, the more he pushed her away the more she clung.  He then starts getting angry calls from his ex that he hadn't talked to in two years telling him she has cancer and doesn't need his psycho girlfriend making threats.  The incident brought them back together and he was with her as she beat the cancer, they remarried and now have a beautiful daughter.  I'm not saying that anything about these are the same except the type of psycho girlfriend.  It's fortunate for my friend that his wasn't smart enough to try the fake pregnancy trick.
