Francesa says other starters are not happy about Pettitte being back

Looking at the whole thing chronologically, I can understand why Garcia is frustrated or upset.  None of us can know what was or wasn't promised when the Yankees signed him, but at the time he certainly had a reasonable expectation that he'd be able to compete for a spot in the rotation.  Then the Yankees traded for Pineda, signed Kuroda and now Andy is back in the picture.  Even with the trade of AJ Burnett, Garcia is no better than seventh on the depth chart now.

Now before I get flamed, let me just say that I didn't love the idea of another year with Freddy in the rotation, nor do I necessarily feel bad for a guy who is being paid 4+ million to play baseball.  All I'm saying is that if I were in his shoes, I would probably feel like I'd been edged out before even having a chance to compete.  Freddy probably wants to pitch a little more after this season.  The way this has unfolded, he likely would have signed elsewhere if he had a crystal ball.

My guess is he'd be willing to approve a trade before June 15 if the Yankees can find a partner.  That might be the way to go whether Andy makes it all the way back or not.  A rotation of CC, Kuroda, Nova, Pineda and Hughes (in whatever order works) should be fine to start the season.  Let one of the three AAA kids take the long-man role, and see what happens with Andy.  Just my opinion.

Hey T. T, I'm looking at it like this. It's Andy Pettitte. A homegrown Yankee great who is one of the cornerstones in the last 5 championships. I don't blame Garcia for being upset. But he knows how the business of MLB works. That said. Anything negative that Garcia says about the issue, he will lose when it comes to the NY media and most Yankee fans.

I'm going to defend Garcia here. Not for a job, but for his comments which were pryed out of him after he'd already said all the right things. Most real reporters would let him go in such a sensitive situation after he'd answered a couple of questions, but here the clown wouldn't let him go till he could use him as a target...very unprofessional, imo.

While I agree mostly with what you said, the competitor in me would piss me off if I was Garcia. The rotation is set, there is no competition (until Andy comes back) there never was and Freddy knows it. I didn't want him back anyway but he kind of did get screwed

He has to earn the spot.... same goes for everyone. I wish I'd get screwd to the tune of  4mil.

He probably took less money to comeback to the Yankees and went into camp with a guaranteed spot. They even traded AJ because they had too many pitchers. Then the job became Hughes' to lose and we all saw how that played out in ST 2010. Now they bring Andy back and Garcia is painted as the bad guy. WTH

They traded AJ because he sucks!

And because he had too many starters and then they add Andy. Who I can't wait to see pitch again.

To anyone going through a difficult time right now  remember someone always has it worse.

That, my dear, is an understatement!

lol! Seriously!

Lola, I'm not going to miss the aggravation every time he took the mound and watching him implode. My agita level should drop substantially with him gone.

I think we can all agree on that.

I'd much rather have a 40 year old Andy Pettitte than a 35 year old AJ Burnett. lol!

Are we still talking baseball?Wink

On the mound... silly! Laughing

I'm not thrilled or jumping outta my seat that Andy is back this is going to be another case of Roger Clemens.  Remember when he came back?  It was during a game and he made this big announcement during a game as if he was Christ himself.  What do we need Andy for he's not going to be ready and what's he going to win 9 games the most?  I rather stick with the rotation we have now.  CC, Kud, Nova, Pin, Huges / Garc.  Anyway I love you Andy but stay retired I rather see some young guns fighting their way up!  Heck we could have had Montero stick around for another year and let him mash and keep an eye on Pin for a whole nother year if Andy would have came back in the off season.  Must have done some HGH with a little test in the off season and now he feels gooddddddddddddd.

I agree 100%. Andy go home and take Ibanez with you.

I'm  tired of this old farxs thinking that they have something left, when most people can see that is over.

Mike is 100% spot on with this. Hughes, Garcia, Nova, and Pineda all have to earn their spots. To be fair to Freddy, since he's the one in particular, if anybody should be the odd man out it's Hughes. Freddy contributed much more than Hughes last year yet he seems to be behind him. I think Phil is going to the bullpen this year, as he should, especially with Robertson's foot issue that has him behind schedule so far.

Andy was having arguably his best year before he got hurt in 2010, just two years ago. The guy can pitch. I would be very surprised if Andy isn't dealing in mid-summer and is without question the Yankees second best pitcher.
