Joba could be released from hospital today. He told Cashman that dr said he could step on a mound by July. But MRI results not back yet.

Not knowing if what is said is true, or will happen, you just knew it being New York that any injury was going to explode everywhere with people acting like the end is nigh! "OH MY GAWD! He has a hangnail! Will he live?!"

My love for the Yankees doesn't prevent me from sometimes wondering why anyone would want to play in NY due to the amount of idiots who cover them in the media and the fans that overact at every little incident. You can be a borderline bench player and you are covered like freakin' Elvis and Madonna by news hounds......

The team did not say whether the 6-foot-2, 240-pound pitcher was using any of the equipment.

Joba?  240 lbs?  I wish I weighed myself on that scale.

Cashman visits optimistic Joba in hospital

LAKELAND, Fla. -- Before the team bus departed from Tampa on Saturday morning, Yankees general manager Brian Cashman briefed reporters on reliever Joba Chamberlain, who suffered a freakish injury when he dislocated his right ankle while jumping on a trampoline with his son.

Cashman visited the pitcher at St. Joseph's Hospital, where he had undergone surgery Thursday night. He said Chamberlain told him that, according to the doctors, he could be back on the mound in July. The general manager downplayed the possibility.

"That's the optimistic side," Cashman said. "As any orthopedic will tell you, you have to go through the whole spectrum [of rehab].

"The way I work this stuff, my mindset is, until they're close to knocking on the door, I [don't worry about it]. Obviously, in Joba's case, it's still a question of when he comes back. I just hope we're in a position where he can come back."

Chamberlain, who hasn't pitched since June 5 as he worked his way back from Tommy John surgery, was diagnosed as having an open dislocation of the ankle and also torn ligaments. The Yankees had hoped he could be back in their bullpen by June.

Joba’s tests show no microfractures; out of hospital tomorrow

Joba Chamberlain is expected to be released from St. Joseph’s Hospital tomorrow, and the fact he’s staying tonight is little more than a precaution, Joe Girardi said.

After an extra-inning win against the Tigers, Girardi announced that MRI and CT scan results showed no microfractures in Chamberlain’s dislocated right ankle, and doctors have enough confidence that he’s avoided infection that they’re willing to release him on Sunday. No more surgeries are planned, and Girardi has been told that Chamberlain will remain in a cast for six weeks.

“Now he’s got to heal,” Girardi said.

There is a real sense of optimism in Yankees camp today, especially compared to yesterday’s focus on the worst-case scenario and the gruesome nature of the injury. Girardi didn’t seem to think it’s unreasonable to think Chamberlain actually could get on a mound by July, but obviously any timetables are premature guesses at this point. There’s still some significantly healing that has to take place.

“We’re not going to rush him because that’s a very important leg,” Girardi said. “That’s your push-off leg. If we (feel) that he’s not pushing off correctly, we’ll back him down. But we’ve got to get to that point first.”

Such a huge set back for Joba. I was looking forward to see him pitch this year. I hope and pray for a speedy recovery for him. I hope the Yankees keep him around.

This sounds quite positive. The fact that no bones were fractured is great news. That means he will still have full motion of the joint when the ligaments heal.

The rays of optimism are almost too good to be true. I hope they are realistic. If they are, we just may see Joba in pistripes again. Way better todat than the way things sounded yesterday!

A trampoline.... seriously! Pretty stupid in my opinion, he had no business being on a trampoline.

He was playing with his son. Nothing wrong with that. Besides I doubt this is the first time Joba has been on a trampoline.
