Grease Thefts Rise in Obama Economy

Bronxbob Posts: 3,168	President Obama’s green energy initiative, coupled with the precipitous rise in gas prices, has led to a spike in grease thefts. There has been a black market for some time for stolen cooking oil, which renderers collect from restaurants and turn into animal feeds and other products. But its use in biodiesel has increased thefts. Life is tough, but it's tougher when you're stupid. In order to see the rainbow, you must first endure the rain! prof. quiz Posts: 2,834	My son-in-law and I were making our own biodiesel a few years back for use in his truck. Waste oil used to be free or restaurants would pay you to get rid of it. Then everyone picked up on the 25 cents a gallon biodiesel compared to the $4+ stuff sold at the pump and started brewing their own. Now the old french fry oil commands a premium and it's not worth collecting anymore. It also was a pain trying to buy methanol in quantity which is used in the biodiesel process. Everyone thought you were cooking something illegal in your basement.
