Wasnt Girardi the hot name in managing after 2006??? Werent there quite a few teams that wanted to hire him??  Baseball Gms know nothing about baseball.  Why would they want such a bad manager???

yanks sold out and went for the trend. donnie will turn out to be a better manager than mr. automaton. girardi has no personality, no creativity, and not even a rebellious spirit of which we were told. to be honest the rays are a more interesting, dynamic team to watch.

I was leaning towards Donnie back in 2007, and I think Donnie will be a good manager.  However, I do not think the Yankees made a bad decision with Joe G, he is a good manager with a much more difficult job then people want to admit.  Juggling high priced guys that in many cases are passed their prime is not easy.  Torre had most of the players still in their prime.  I know I am wasting space here, because many would not give Girardi credit if he won 3 WS in a row, because they would say he has the highest payroll he should win.  btw, thats another difficult part of his job all other managers do not have to deal with.

I still feel that Girardi costs the Yanks 6 or 7 games per season. How about hiring Francona? I hate the Red Sux but think that he did a heck of a job and I'm sure that he would love to stick it to the Sux.

Maddon isn't a "genius" by any stretch of the imagination, he's just smarter than Girardi.

It's kind of like this... suppose you're hiking in the woods with a friend, and you come upon a bear. Your friend says "How are we going to get out of this? I can't outrun a bear." And you say to him "I don't have to outrun a bear. I just have to outrun YOU."

I think Girardi is a good manager, but Maddon sure does get more out of the players he has than Girardi does.

This all just seems silly.  Two games and he's possibly a genius?  He's got ten #1 picks!!  We should all be so smart.

I thought at the time and in hindsight that Girardi was the right choice b/w him and Mattingly. I'm glad Donnie is making his bones in LA for his eventual HOMECOMING where he'll have experience and confidence.  Girardi's best year here was last year IMO. He isn't perfect - nobody is - but his by the book **** drives me loonie hence the name.  And this resting **** is even worse.

But I like him.

The reason I didn't want Mattingly at the time was exactly this.  Can you imagine?

Strat me too. I didn't want the fans to turn on Mattingly as manager.
