Normally I will stay away from making posts like this. I understand some of the moves Girardi has made in the first two games but leaving Rapada in was inexcusable...and his explanation more so.
It's one thing for fans to give up and throw up the white flag but until that last out is record, unless it's a blowout, you never,EVER give up. Girardi basically stated that's what he did.
That is inexcusable from a manager.
As for the shift..despite that we've scored twelve runs against it. The shift didn't beat us,Mo's failure in game one and Girardi's stupid move to leave Rapada in did.

Girardi's managerial skills are marginal, at best.

The big hit, of course, was Evan Longoria’s double (initially ruled a home run but overturned). Right-handers hit .692 — yes, .692 — against Rapada last season, so what was he doing facing Longoria in the first place? That was Girardi’s call, and he explained that he used Rapada against five hitters because the game was already out of hand and he didn’t want to burn out another reliever in that spot. “You’ve got (lefty) Joyce coming up too,” Girardi said. “It’s 6-2 and you’re down. It’s the (seventh) inning. We’ve got a lot of days early on. We have one day off in the first 16 or 17 days, so we can’t burn these guys out in the first two days.”

This is year five of Girardi doing the same thing.  Resting his players when the situation doesn't allow or dictate resting your players. Ya know, day 2, for instance.

Unbelievable.  You don't rest your players in the 2nd game of the season, and especially against a team that you have to beat to win the division.  Geez, they go to Baltimore next, give them a rest then.

Get ready,  A-Rod is getting a day off today.  After 1-2 games Jeter/A-Rod is already tired?  If this is what we are going to see for the rest of the season play 2 days rest the next, we looking at approximately 108 games for Jeter, A-Rod, and Nunez.

Always proud to be a Yankee fan.

So you're down 2-6 in the 7th. Since when do you throw in the towel with the offense that the Yanks have?

Joey Binders will never ever change.  Most over rated coach in sports right now. The Yankees should have been to the World Series at least 3 times in the last 4 years, but thanks to Joey Binders they only made it once.  and that took major MIRACLES of course, meaning Arod and AJ Burnett had to come up HUGE in the 2008 playoffs.

Maybe Girardi is thinking that all players are like he was: a catcher who needs rest.  That's the only explanation I can drum up.

Girardi has made two/three moves that are questionable to say the least ...

1- pitching to Pena ..bases loaded ... putting team in hole..and forcing Sabathia to throw extra pitches ..ok every move doesnt work..

2- this insane idea Jeter needed a rest in game # 2 of season is plain stupid ... unless the player has some type of injury ..you dont rest any starter against a division rival no less, in 2nd game of season for being tired ...c'mon Joe ...

3- using Rapada ? ..you did the opposite opening day against  with CC facing Pena, now you go against the match up ?  Rapada is on the team as a situational lefty ...again c'mon  Joe ...

4- result ...0- 2
