the only batters that hit him hard in that game were the last 3 batters , the other 6 including pujols he was able to get out .  not a terrible start but not a very good one either

He said he was sick but IMO,it also had to do with the fact he was warming the bench quite a bit there after the 4th inning. The catch 22 to a long inning is that it can throw the pitcher off his routine.

The Angels are far from a potent lineup. They are getting a great deal of support from older players who weren't expected to contribute this much, like Torii Hunter and Vernon Wells, similar to the situation the Yankees have right now with Ibanez. I think Nova's major issue was the long layovers between innings. If you looked at his pitches, he clearly had his good stuff today, but just made a few mistakes locating it. Yankee Stadium seems to be playing very short in right field again early in the year, and the 2-run HR he gave up would have been a double in every other park in the league. That, plus the fact that he had a big lead and could afford to be less picky about his location.

Burying your argument with the facts.

Nova is giving up a lot of hits. But he makes it up for a lot of strikeouts, which is an improvement from last year.

Doubles or just a long fly ball that would have been caught ?? But we benefited from the same short porch many of time..  I still content that short porch has ruined some very good swings ???

That's the major difference I see if we compared Phil Hughes to Ivan Nova that Nova has more poise and doesn't wilt when the going gets tough. I think Hughes still is trying to figure things out and I've been more than given Hughes a pass but it's starting to get concerning. Another month of this with Pettitte's return right around the corner and I'll be for putting Hughes in the pen permanitely. I think Nova suffered from sitting on the bench for long amounts of time but then again, that's what happens when you wear pinstripes, normally the pitcher has about 10 - 15 mins minimum before he gets back up to pitch again. I think it threw Nova off but still all things considering, he did a pretty good job.

I say sophomore Jinx because of his ERA this spring and his struggles so far even though he is 2-0.  The Yanks have had to overcome big deficits and get him leads of 4 runs or more.  I AM happy that he is 2-0 and that Raul Ibanez (who had a GOD AWFUL spring) has also pleasantly SURPRISED me with his production so far.  When they got him I thought that it was 2yrs. too late.  I still think that a return of Matsui & or Damon would have been a better DH scenario than Jones/Ibanez!

Spring training ERA means jack ****. Nova looked pretty good against a very good lineup, he just left a couple hangers up. It's something to build on and he's still unbeaten since last June.

What BIG DEFICIT did the Yanks have to overcome last night? Did you watch a different game than I did?

Cut the guy a break please. He, as well as Robbie, have been fighting a flu type bug that's hit the clubhouse and there was a chance that Ivan wasnt going to get the start until Saturday. He tossed a lot of pitches early but settled down and gutted it out. Was that 8Ks I saw?  IMO he's nails and is just the type of competitior Id want on my team. Good effort on his part. 2-0, NICE!
