lmao! I thougt that Nunez cost him a "good" outing. I thought he pitched well based on his other outings...WAY better IMO. What I still dotn get is that we hear CC and Kuroda are th e"only guys" with a lock in the roatation. Nova better be in there IMO.

If not for the error by Nunez,he would have been out of that first inning. Like the guys in the booth said, while there is still a lot of room for improvement,he looked far better than his line indicated tonight.

LOL----I have no idea what you're talking about but I thought it was funny as h ell anyway.

Do you remember the SNL "deep thoughts" segment? I haven't watched SNL for years. Do they still do that?

I'd also like to say that when you get right down to it you're almost as cynical as I am.............not quite though.

True but sometimes pitchers have to pick up the other players and typical Hughes he did not. He gave up a bloop hit with 2 outs but what even more inexplicable was the 2 run double on a 0-2 pitch. Shows you he has no concept of what "pitching" is about and setting up hitters.

Also this is no longer one isolated outing. It is a continuation of the last year and a half.

I agree Hughes needs to pick up his players once in a while.. he didn't really pitch all that bad.. I think Minn. is a better hitting team then we might give them credit.. If they had a couple of good pitchers they would be in a lot better shape.. They make contact, and they move runners.. The M & M boys got hot and they both like to hit in NY.. Justin M. cooled off a little last night from his first three games and that seemed to be the difference last night..

Hughes is going to be given every chance to succeed, if he does have an option left they might use it and let him get his command a little better.. I see that as being his biggest problem.. It seems he gets ahead but that put away pitch he makes it too good for hitters to miss.. you can't do that against major league hitters.. Just one other thing, its seems all our pitchers have struggled to keep the ball down.. Even CC has gotten the ball up, and that's what did Kurado in the other night, you just can't pitch up in the strike zone unless you have 95-97 mph stuff.. Big league hitters can catch up to 91-92 mph fast ball when it's up in the strike zone...

Hughes is not the worst of the worst, yet.  Gotta deal Freddy first and then see if P gets it together before sending H anywhere.

I believe Hughes turns 26 in June, but don't quote me on that.  I'm too lazy to look it up.  It's time for Hughes to step up.  If he has another bad start tonight I'd send him back to AAA for awhile to get straightened out, or back to the bullpen where he's had success.   They can't keep sending him out there and having him pitch poorly, not in this division with the competition they have.  If they could send a winning pitcher like Nova down last year, then Hughes can certainly be sent down.  Obviously I'm rooting for the guy to bounce back tonight with a good game. He needs it, and this team needs it more.  Just my opinion.

OK... then he's almost 26. I'd still maintain that he's not much older than the guys I compared him to, who have all had more developmental time. I'd have no problem sending him to AAA if they thought he could benefit, and I agree he needs a good start tonight. I guess I'm puzzled mostly by the amount of hate he gets sometimes. We always hear the narrative about the Yankees not being patient enough with young players. Every time a hot new prospect emerges people can't wait to see him, and they swear they can be patient if he struggles. It never seems to happen that way though. I do realize he's been here for a long time now, and it's time to make some strides, but he seems to be healthy and he's only had a couple of starts.

He's been up since he was 21.  I believe he first pitched in April 2007.  It's not like he came up last year.

He's had more than enough time ( back and forth into the BP, because his starts have been so horrendous), to show everyone in the major leagues his value  / potential. I am sure his value has decreased.

I wonder how we felt about Derek Jeter or Mariano Rivera after they'd been up for 5 years.  Andy?

Should we wait until Phil is 29 before we make a determination?  Not meaning to be harsh about this, but come on..

ive been saying something like this since last august and im glad that im not the only one that feels this way.  every time i mention this..it has been met with resistence.  the usual answers are.....hes young, he gets paid less, his trade value is low...blah blah blah.  hes basically been the same pitcher since the day he first come up from the minors.  i dont foresee any significant improvement from him.  yes im aware that halliday was once this bad......but he was sent to the minors to get a make over......hughes declined this.  learning on the big league level isnt good if your on a team that if you dont get the the world series its considered a failed year.

I blame the Joba rules for Joba and Hughes.  Those first two seasons are all about confidence building.  The Joba rules messedthat up.

Whether they can recover, as Yankees, remains to be seen.
