A true Yankee would never be above stepping on a boston throat!

SOrry 61,yes Mo blew back to back saves in 04 and Brown and Javy were choke jobs in game 7 but game 6 is where Torre blew it. The we're too classy to play that way is a bunch of garbage. You show class by not admiring your home runs and giving the opposing team kudos in the press conferences. Not bunting on a pitcher who just got off surgery and most likely wouldn't have been able to field them is just plain stupid. Yea,we showed class..and got the worst post season choke job in baseball history to show for it.

I love when Yankee fans blame Mariano for that Boston series loss (he had a 1.29 ERA in that series) and canNOT see that Torre had a bad series. Meanwhile Torre was a genius when Mariano got him 4 rings? Fact is, Torre and the whole team SHAT away that ALCS. I adore Torre but I gotta be fair.

I'm not saying Torre was a genius. Some things are what they are. If a guy throws a brick through your living room window you don't blame the builder for building your house in the wrong place, you blame the guy who threw the brick.

...or you could blame the guy who made the brick.  Just spitballin' here.  ;)

This.

Forget Torre, I couldn't believe ANY major league manager would actually admit to this kind of thinking. I know Tito would have ordered the bunts. I bet Girardi would have too.

If there was any kind of truth to Joe Torre not ordering bunts against a crippled Schilling just to protect his own "classy" reputation then IMO he sold out his team in a big way and should not be revered like he is.

You blame the guy with the deepest pockets and then sue his ass. In this case it would be the contractor who built the sidewalk who allowed the guy with the brick to walk past your house. Or, just sue Microsoft straight off.

How do you know that the Yankee's would have won with a bunting strategy? I'm glad to know that you have access to an alternate universe where you can create your own reality by changing a few events.

We'll never know. He held onto the bricks.

That's the POINT.

We don't but the fact it wasn't even attempted. As for Lupica...I've seen articles written by Curt Schilling that give the Yankees more credit than Lupicrud does.

And we do know for sure what happened when he decided to hold onto the bricks. One of the most epic chokes in the history of pro sports.

Torre's performance in that series is indefensible. Fact. Not opinion.
