Swisher's exuberant is the result of getting the lead after trailing by 9 runs.  It's happiness for his team after Garcia put them in a hole more so than sticking it to their opponent.  It's was a spontaneous reaction having no thoughts in rubbing their opponent.  Following his chest pounding he pointed to Yankees dugout. I can see Kruk being upset if Swisher's finger pointing was aimed at Red Sox dugout.

It seems Kruk's problem lies with our Yankees as he said Swisher was adding salt to the wound. I don't see him having an problems with Martinez/Millar yakking it up in a planned celebratory way in rubbing our Yankees with 2004 and indeed adding salt to the wound. With Kruk whatever Yankees do can never be acceptable.

For John Kruk it was an aggravating moment, giving him all the reason he needed to target Nick Swisher and question how he conducts himself on the field.

Swisher had pulled into second after hitting a two-run double in the eighth Saturday off Alfredo Aceves, providing the Yankees with a 10-9 lead and wiping out a 9-0 deficit. The moment definitely wasn’t lost on Swisher.

“He’s at second base screaming ‘yeah, yeah,’ ” Suzyn (Ma Pinstripe) Waldman shrieked on the radio. “He’s just so happy.”

Fox’s pictures revealed the celebration was not limited to Swisher’s verbal stylings. Borrowing a move from King Kong, Swisher pounded his chest with both fists, screamed something, then pointed — presumably — toward the Yankees dugout.

Neither Joe Buck nor Tim McCarver had much to say about Swisher’s display of jubilation. And in most accounts of the Bombers’ comeback, Swisher’s gesticulations were a footnote.

The scene didn’t go down easy for everyone. Kruk despised it. On ESPN’s “Baseball Tonight,” where Valentine once worked with him, Kruk pulled out his blowtorch and aimed it directly at Swisher.

Kruk said Swisher’s display was more about rubbing it in than anything else. He said he’s not a “big fan” of look-at-me celebrations primarily designed to salt the wound.

“Yeah, Nick, you did your job. That’s what you were expected to do so just accept it and be a little more humble,” said Kruk, in a disgusted tone. “I hear Yankee fans say, ‘Well, that’s Nick. That’s the way he is.’ ”

The more Kruk spoke, the more agitated he became.

“But when does a pitcher start saying, ‘This is the way I am and this is the way I play.’ If you beat us you beat us,” Kruk said. “If you show us up and try to embarrass us by laughing and joking and pumping your chest and everything, perhaps I’ll dot you one right between the numbers and see how that feels.”

It was vintage Kruk. And it certainly eliminates him from ever working for Al Yankzeera. It immediately moved him up on the enemies lists compiled by every card-carrying Yankees fan.

Kruk has never been one to hold back. Still there was a difference here. There is trash-talking, and a wide array of egocentric gyrations that accompany it, in all sports. Broadcasters who comment on these made-for-TV outbursts usually go a few different ways: 1) They ignore them. 2) They encourage and embrace them as part of the games they yak about. 3) They decry them.

Baseball voices fit category No. 1. Compared to other sports, there are less of these extracurricular moments in baseball. There’s less excessive jive going down.

Throughout all the years he’s been an analyst, we’ve rarely heard McCarver get bent out of shape over what passes for trash talk in baseball. Heck, T-Mac showed more anger over Manny Ramirez playing left field with a bottle of water in his back pocket than some player stomping on home plate.

Since Yankees-Red Sox, scheduled for ESPN’s “Sunday Night Baseball” was rained out, “Baseball Tonight” was on for three hours. At the top of each hour, the panel — Karl Ravech, Buster Olney, Kruk and Terry Francona — covered the same topics, giving Kruk two more shots at Swisher.

The second time around he was more subtle. Or was he?

“I’m not a fan of anyone doing it (showing another team up), it’s not just Nick. I came up in an era if you did do that there is going to be repercussions from the other team. We understood that. . . It is what Nick does,” Kruk continued. “It’s been his thing his whole career at Oakland. Well, (when he was with) the White Sox he didn’t get on base that much so he didn’t do it for the White Sox. I can’t accept what he does as part of the game."

Now that Kruk has opened the door, will YES voices comment on his analysis, explore his points and make it an issue? There’s probably a better chance of Kruk being demonized. YES mouths have always maintained that Swisher’s animated presence loosens up the clubhouse, that he’s good for Yankees morale.

Swisher is popular among those covering the team. He is normally described in print and other places as a motivator.
