Cashman: Pineda was “fully healthy” at time of trade

Yankees GM Brian Cashman:

“In no way do I believe, or do the New York Yankees believe, that the Seattle Mariners had any knowledge of any issues here with Michael Pineda prior to the trade or anything of that nature. He was a fully healthy player we acquired. We had full access to his medicals, which were clean.

“We had the opportunity to do a full physical exam, which we did, which came out clean. Michael has never had a shoulder issue nor has he complained of one with the Mariners, nor has he ever had any tests on the shoulder with the Mariners. This is just an unfortunate circumstance that can happen. It happened.”

Excuses, excuses, excuses. Vazquez, Joba, Pineda.. Enough already.

3 completely different, unrelated pitching problems.

The Yanks' plan to develop Joba was working just fine in 2008, he hurt his arm the first time diving to get out of the way of a throw to 2nd by his catcher, if I remember right. That's not really Cashman's fault, I don't think. Joba mostly recovered, but we never saw his top stuff again, except for a relief appearance here or there.

Just frustration setting in.

Well, you're certainly entitled to that.

Maybe I'll just stop butting in.

the sky is fine, it always is...  Montero will be the next Clint Hurdle or the next Manny Ramirez or something in between...  if he's the next Manny we can sign him back, by that time Hal will be over his salary cap phase....

I'm more concerned if our highly touted arms in AAA will be busts or not...

For the record, I don't think the sky is fine, but I don't think it's falling, either.

I'd like more info about how severe this torn labrum is before we get to "gloom and doom".

But this is a serious injury, and it puts Pineda's future in jeopardy.

Yeah, qwik, you are the exception that proves the rule, hence your popularity among these boards as the go-to guy for realistic response (I know I value it.)  It's a good trait to have.  Wish I had it.  It is a serious deal for Pineda, who may never be the same, and even if he is to get close to what he was, he's gotta lot of work ahead of him.  I think the Yanks will weather this fine.  (And it's been a good day for me, since one of the posters accused me of taking steroids 'cause I look so jacked in my profile pic.  Probably why I'm not as panicked as I would be.  Feeling pretty good about it.)

This is a shame for both the Yanks and Pineda - he looked so promising last year up in SEA.  Incredibly dominating and intimidating.

Cheers to his fast recovery!

i don't think the sky is falling, i think we can make the playoffs without him without a doubt. However, the sky isn't fine either- Cashman took a massive risk a career defining risk trading our top prospect Montero for him...and it looks really bad. There is alot riding on this trade working out.

Pettitte is a god send, however i can't see us being able to win it all without another significant trade for a pitcher come July. Simply because we don't kno if Andy can stay healthy allyear coming out of retirement, Garcia flat out sucks, and Hughes doesn't look any better than a 5th starter. So Hal better get over this salary cap phase, and allow another deal for a pitcher in the summer. Either that or one of the killer B's comes up to help the big club.
