This pitching staff proves why the Pineda/Montero trade was a good trade.

I don't buy your assessment. Could it be that the talent just isn't there?

The talent is there because they went from a barren system to a fruitful one but the problem lies in how those players are developed.

I don't buy it. It has nothing to do with how they were developed. They just weren't/aren't that good, period. This failure of development excuse is just something for talking heads to blabber about when filling air time.

There may have been some guys like Brackman who wasnever really good but there is no way you can get the players they acquired and come to the conclusion that none of them are that good. Switch the Yankees development staff with the Rays and I guarantee you guys like Joba and Hughes either reach their ceilings or are closer to them then they are right now.

2012 payroll is $209,792,900.00

Alex gets: $29M in salary plus a $1M dollar bonus = $30M for 2012. If he reaches 660 home runs, career wise - not as a Yankee, we owe him $6M, so potentially Alex can make up to $36M in 2012. So Alex represents 18% of our payroll. To have that much in one player is huge.

Alex = 18%

CC = 11%

Tex = 10%

Jeter = 7.6%

Mo = 7.1%

So, Alex is, as he was in Texas, is a huge drain on payroll, even one as huge as ours. We go from 179M to 209M just on what Alex is minimally owed. That would put us $1M over the luxury tax limit.

Performance wise, is Alex worth the money? Never was. The deal we had with Texas made is palatable. They paid him $8M, we paid $16M. When he opted out Tweedle Dum Hank made a huge error.

How does this effect the team? We might need to make a decision on whether we can keep Granderson and Swisher next year, especially with Cano's contract up as well.

And if Mo is retiring, we need to $$ to somehow transition to a post Mo Yankee bullpen. That is going to cost $$$ and even then, can it ever be filled?

Everyone has to stop with the Arod contract. It's ridiculous already. The Arod contract is not what's hurting the Yankees now. In 2 years it could be a different story, but stop lying to yourselves. The guy may need to DH once a week and that's it. There are plenty of at bats at DH to go around.

Grandy could be back, Swisher is more than likely gone, and they will definitely lock up Robbie.

The bullpen will be built as it has been built over the past yrs. Farm hands, trades, waiver wire, cost efficient FAs, and maybe 1 guy making real money. Outside of Mo and Sori no one in the pen has a big contract. The Sori move was done by Levine who for some reason felt the need to spend the money burning on Hal's pocket.

Not really. His peripherals were the same or better through the 2nd half. The 1 and 4 is the Mariners' awful offense as much as him. There was nothing really questionable, and if the results in the 2nd half had been just as good, the Yanks would have had to give up either Banuelos or Betances along with Montero to get him.

Yes, let's be super thankful that the boneheadedness of the deal Cashman made wasn't compounded even further.

No patience? The Yankees haven't signed any big name contracts the last 3 years and they are STILL having problems. They are actually developing good players in the minors, then trading them away for hot garbage in return. Joba was being developed terribly even before the Yankees were in "rebuilding" mode, so that's no excuse.
