...get a load of this pundits "call" of a pitcher who "didnt make it back" from TJ surgey. Granted this was written in 2010 but, the snippet speaks for itself after last Saturday.....

Failed Comeback: Phil Humber

FLUSHING, NY - SEPTEMBER 26:  Pitcher Philip Humber #49 of the New York Mets throws a pitch against the Washington Nationals during their MLB game at Shea Stadium on September 26, 2007 in Flushing, New York.  The Nationals defeated the Mets 12-10.  (Photo

The Mets selected Humber with the third overall pick in the 2004 draft.  Humber held out for a long time before finally signing for $3.7 million in January 2005.  Humber pitched in High-A and Double-A during his first professional season in 2005.

However, after just one start in Double-A Humber needed Tommy John surgery. He returned in the second half of the 2006 season and made 13 starts, but his career was sent permanently off course by the surgery.

He pitched for the Mets Triple-A team in 2007 before he was included in the trade for Johan Santana. He spent two years as a Four-A pitcher for the Twins before signing with the Royals in 2010, earning his first big league victory just last week.

Tommy John surgery fixes an elbow. Pinedas problem is with his shoulder which are much more severe injuries for a pitcher but I get the point you're trying to make.

I agree it is kinda apples and oranges to comapre the 2 injuries. This is much worse. TJ is almost a routine thing now...Hopefully he can he make it back

I'm totally aware that we're looking at two different injuries. BRJ got my point and the guys in the booth gave several examples of pitchers, including Al Leiter, who'e had successful comebacks. Medical technology has come a long way in 20-25 years and Pineda can very well be one  of the successes.

You have be positive about this whole situation... Yeah Cash took a gamble, by trading out top offensive prospect, for a pitcher...  (High risk/high reward)  Thats his job... To make thisteam better!!! And imo Cashman did that!! (ty cash)     After all of the "Not Knowing" with his pitching shoulder, we finally have some answers....  First of all, its not the rotar cuff, which could of been catastrophic ...   Thats what my biggest concern was... Knowing that, makes this situation easier to handle. imo   Its "only" a tear, and thats NOT career threatening..   After surgery, it will heal and he will come back from this!  He IS stilll just a baby, so healing shouldn't be a problem.  I'm extremly disappointed that I wont see this kid pitch until next year, But just imagine the fire burning in this kid, wanting to prove He belongs in Pinstipes, nevermind baseball!!!      I wish micheal pineda all the best, in his "swift" recovery  see ya 2012 kid!!

I had to laugh when I heard that the Yankees said they don't think they got damaged goods. Lets see. Pineda had a bad second half last season. Combine that with the fact that his velocity has been down since day one with the Yankees and the MRI showed a tear. I don't care about the first 2 MRI's. They were done without contrast. If George was alive the krap would have hit the fan at the office of MLB.

I hear ya about Geo but, Drs viewed his MRI's, did their own exam and contrast or not, an MRI, would show some abnomality that a Dr would want to take another look at. I dotn buy the damaged goods theory at all.

And for once, George would have been right.

I read this morning an arcticle by Tim Brown that both Schilling and Carpentar from St Louis had this operation.  Hopefully it will all work out.

Yes, they both did have the same operation.  It was found out later though that Schilling only had Ketchup on his shoulder.
